Virgin Atlantic EWR Clubhouse in Newark, New Jersey by SLADE ARCHITECTURE

Friday, January 24th, 2014

The Newark Clubhouse brings together NYC’s downtown flair and Virgin Atlantic’s warmth and individuality.

A constellation of sparkling pinpoint lights draws you into the sculpted entry passage. Punctuated by a sky lit receptionist at a specular desk, the entry sequence creates an extended decompression zone between the busy terminal and the relaxed luxury of the clubhouse; a dramatic immersion into the Virgin Atlantic experience.

Tuesday, December 17th, 2013

The Dandenong Precinct Energy Project (P.E.P.) is a flagship project in the implementation of low carbon energy generation in Victoria. The P.E.P. will supply the buildings in a 7 hectare redevelopment precinct with electricity and heating thermal energy (Cogeneration) in the form of hot water with twice the efficiency of a typical gas fired power station, with less than half the carbon emissions of a coal fired power station. In addition, some building’s will utilize the hot water produced to run absorption chillers to provide cooling, resulting in even greater efficiencies, and further reduced emissions.

Center for the Performing Arts in Scottsdale, Arizona by John Douglas Architects

Friday, December 13th, 2013

Article source: John Douglas Architects

This 1975 performing arts center was one of the most notable projects designed by the late Arizona architect Bennie Gonzales, FAIA, who also designed Scottsdale’s signature municipal structures, including the city hall and main library, which are linked to the arts center by the park-like Scottsdale Civic Center. Gonzales was known for his simple, pure forms that echoed both classic Southwestern and Native-American architectural themes. Gonzales designed the 100,000-square-foot arts center to include a large main theater, a smaller, secondary theater, gallery space, offices and a vast central atrium.

Campus WU – Master Plan and Landscaping in Vienna, Austria by BUSarchitektur

Friday, December 6th, 2013

Article source: BUSarchitektur

The Campus is a sequence of intertwining open spaces. Buildings on the different zones qualify these spaces from an architectural point of view. The Master Plan model determined the design of these open areas; a fabric of interior and exterior spaces, defined by the location of the buildings’ entrances in relation to the plazas, brings life to the intended environment.

DIAMOND CITY in Adelaide, Australia by Tom Wiscombe Design

Wednesday, November 20th, 2013

Article source:  Tom Wiscombe Design

We propose an interior city existing inside a mysterious diamond-like object. The approach stands in opposition to conventional master planning, where a set of reductive instructions such as building use, open space, and setbacks inherently undermine any tendency towards massively dense or monolithic forms. This building is not a map of history, a reified system of flows, or an evolutionary diagram.
