House on Fire Island in New York by Studio Twenty Seven Architecture (designed with Rhino, AutoCAD, and Photoshop)

Thursday, March 22nd, 2012

Article source: Studio 27 Architecture

This is a summer beach house in the resort community of the Pines on Fire Island New York. The typology of the homes in the Pines is recognizable to anyone who has visited an East Coast Shoreline resort town. It is a builderdriven typology reflecting the pragmatism of the inhabitants of these coastal communities. Almost always the “good sense” pragmatism that allows these homes to be built affordably overtakes the inherent liveliness and natural spirit of the place and creates structures that are a bit dull. This project inserts some of the “spirit of the shore” into this “Yankee thriftiness” residential typology. Common detail and material remain, but the volume of the house is expressed as a skin, rather than as a box-like container. The skin keeps the heat in. Over time, the skin of woven cedar boards will assume the same patina as neighboring houses. Large windows are introduced to reveal a luxurious light interior.

Dress House in Klagenfurt, Austria by Heri & Salli (designed using Rhino)

Sunday, March 18th, 2012

Article source: Heri & Salli

The architecture studio heri & salli from Vienna conceived for one part of an already existing house in Austria/Klagenfurt a façade design made of perforated sheets of aluminum. Already existing views were picked up and subjected to a dynamic appearance. The object was to create a homogenous appearance, to reinforce and underline the presence of the existing cube and at the same time conserve functions like the view to the outside through the facade.

Farum in Denmark by WE architecture

Friday, March 9th, 2012

Article source: WE architecture

Today suburbia is a typology that has been greatly criticized. We believe that suburbs have great potential in becoming qualified and generous spaces for the inhabitants.

This competition was initiated by Realdania in order to create debate and visions for “The Suburbs of the Future”. Farum is today a fragmented suburb located 20 km from the centre of Copenhagen. The competition area is divided by large roads into islands of eclectic architecture composed of buildings mainly from the 70s and the 80s.

National Library of Public Information in Taichung, Taiwan by J. J. Pan & Partners (designed with Rhino and IDEAS)

Wednesday, March 7th, 2012

Article source: J. J. Pan & Partners, Architects & Planners

Situated in the middle of the island of Taiwan, the National Library of Public Information occupies a site that is both geographically and metaphorically the confluence of information exploration and urban evolution. The striking form of the building features a “horizontal flow” theme recalling the early irrigation canals in the city’s settlement since the 18th century, as well as symbolizing the fluid data interface in the internet age.

Habitat 15 in Hollywood, California by Predock Frane Architects (designed using AutoCAD and Rhino)

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012

Article source: Predock Frane Architects

DESIGN INTENT: Working within the context of a for-profit MUR creates a particular set of parameters; programmatic, physical, and client/cost informed. Our solution is two 4-story buildings placed parallel to the street. Between them is a courtyard, reached via a tunnel through the first building, accommodating shared public space and circulation. The simple cubic shape of the buildings allowed for greater project resources to be deployed to the sectional relations within the units. The separation into two buildings allows half of the unit’s access to light on three sides.

Multiple Natures – Fibrous Tower in Taichung, Taiwan by soma (designed with Rhino and Grasshopper)

Saturday, March 3rd, 2012

Article source: soma

A new tower typology
The Taiwan Tower will become an innovative landmark people can identify with in present as well as in future times. Therefore the tower should not state a fixed message, but trigger people to invent their own interpretations of the tower’s meaning. To evoke multiply and diverse associations the tower has to be illusive and complex. It will become a dynamic and contemporary landmark that celebrates diversity.
