Boutique Penelope in Québec, Canada by Hatem+D

Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015

Article source: v2com

To celebrate the company’s 45 years of existence, the owners of Boutique Penelope wanted to not only expand their Place Ste-Foy business in Quebec City but also refresh its brand image through a new store design. The goal was to create a flow between the various spaces while preserving the existing display cases. Hatem+D Architecture used a logical and harmonious design concept to devise three distinct and well-defined zones. The “watches” section, in elegant black located in the back of the boutique, features a sales counter and a screen wall. In the middle, the white “jewelery” area illuminates the space with its counters and a repair workshop that’s cleverly delineated with frosted glass partitions. The balance between this opposition of black and white is smoothly interrupted by the champagne coloured gemstone station, a display overhung by a sculptural structure that resembles the facets of cut diamonds. The space is topped with a white acoustic module with recessed light fixtures, which brings an elegant contrast to the black ceiling. The large volumes and visual oppositions of this layout all blend together elegantly. Customers are offered an experience that’s both sophisticated and functional, and whose beauty is only matched by the refreshing and refined design.

Alto El Golf in Santiago, Chile by Handel Architects

Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Article source: Handel Architects

Alto El Golf is a312,000 sq. ft. (29,000 m²) office building, recently completed in the El Golf section of Santiago.

For this project, we strove to rethink the standard office typology. Santiago has a mild climate and the Chileans embrace nature and the outdoors. In addition, the site is surrounded by streets on three of its sides, generating an isle condition with ideal sun and visual exposures. The resultant design is a series of irregularly scaled, shifted volumes that replace the static hierarchies of the hermetic box, creating a variety of outdoor terraces that allow for greenery and social interaction. The building also represents our thinking on the changing nature of the workplace environment, where utilizing these types of spaces is an integral part of daily life.

Hoekenrodeplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands by KARRES+BRANDS

Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Article source: KARRES+BRANDS

Hoekenrodeplein forms the link between the Amsterdam Port shopping centre and the Arena Boulevard. With the redevelopment of the New Amsterdam Building, the square has been developed as one of the final phases of the Zuidoost Centre Area. The existing, U-shaped building th at wraps around the square was expanded on the ground and first floors, and now accommodates public functions, such as a hotel and hospitality facilities. This redevelopment, along with the desire of the municipality to also allow events to take place on the square, made it necessary to revise the earlier design by karres+brands from 2006.

Boutique Hotel in Pangalti, Turkey by Manço Architects

Friday, May 29th, 2015

Article source: Manço Architects

The project was designed as a 35-room boutique hotel to be constructed on the site of an abandoned commercial block that will be redeveloped according to the Urban Regeneration Law.

A strong architectural character reflecting the urban context was aimed so that the building will stand out among the numerous small-mid size city hotels being erected in the vicinity. The plot is located on Dolapdere Avenue that is still predominantly lined with auto repair workshops despite the ongoing gentrification process. Accordingly, façade and interior materials referring to the automotive industry with their shapes, textures and colors were preferred.
