TherMitte by Nissen & Wentzlaff Architects BSA SIA AG

Competition, 2004 – first place: There are three structures: a four-storey residential building along the Hauptstrasse, with a walkway which reduces noise levels, a separate structure within this unit to house the banking premises, and a three-storey residential unit parallel to the first at the rear of the plot. This layout creates an internal courtyard, which can be accessed through two generous entrances from the two neighboring streets, which also serve as entrances to the residential units behind and to the services housed on the ground floor. The buildings are enclosed in wooden latticework, creating a filigreed and calm membrane between the internal and external spaces.

Award „best. architects 11“; „Award 2010 for Marketing + Architecture“: The building is primarily used to present the company’s current products to visitors in a form that not only shows off their appearance but also demonstrates their use. At the same time, the premises are a suitable venue for public events, product presentations and informal gatherings. The two-storey building is designed as a shell, with the central core providing space for storage, the lift and side rooms. Two open, opposed and curved staircases link the ground floor to a gallery with exhibition bays and demonstration bathroom layouts on the upper floor. The atrium at the centre of the building is filled with natural light from small round skylights in the ceiling.

BRANCH OFFICE OF THE COMPANY M&V in Brno, Czech Republic by Rudolf Müller

Sunday, September 28th, 2014

Article source: Rudolf Müller

Converting the building of a former garage, body shop and paint shop into a branch office of a company selling hardware and metal machining toolware falls within the projects that you simply need if you still desire to make endless search for the relationship between architecture and its surroundings, to historical and future development, and to detail. Or, the desire to search and to deliver as well, to put it more precisely. The aim is not to be bound by previously taken decisions, on the contrary, following critical discussions with experts, to select the seemingly best solution and to feel the client’s support. Subsequently, the whole process results in the absence of extremes, i.e. unilateral and pointless architectural exhibition and a unified and universal solution with stubborn efforts to reduce the budget at any cost.
