Spire in Våler, Norway by Visiondivision

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

Article source: Visiondivision

The church in the small town of Våler in Norway burned down and a competition was held to build a new one. We joined the competition with the following entry. It is in the rural church that the people in a village is experiencing its most emotional moments; this is where the kids run out on the last day of school, it is here you get married and it is here you bid farewell to your loved ones.

PH house in El Salvador, Argentina by Estudio HMA

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Estudio HMA

From the beginning of the project we understood the intrinsic qualities associated with this piece of urban fabric. We here deal with a rectangular space with measures that do not exceed 7.50 m x 12.00 m located practically in the heart of the square. This is a dwelling unit of the type of the row houses in the city of Buenos Aires. At the beginning of the last century it was common to build small houses with the conceptual characteristics of the “sausage house” multiplied for the depth of an urban lot. The project then rose as a challenge to customer demands whose programmatic needs far exceeded the possibilities offered by the nature of the terrain. We also had to be aware of the constraints brought by the responsibility of reforming a historic site that was protected by the law of the city of Buenos Aires.

Gentilly by Emmanuel COMBAREL Dominique MARREC Architects

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: COMBAREL Dominique MARREC Architects

The project is primarily a proposal to articulate two territories, two urban landscapes separated by the influence of the device. This context of urban fringe releases a vast expanse where the vacuum is dominant, where the eye can see far. This work on the perception and interpretation of the landscape gives a facade gable major pivotal role. Whether from the device or from the streets of Gentilly, pine nuts are present, dominant in the interpretation of the building. The curvatures of the device and the notion of displacement generate a reading in perspective with always at least two fronts seen: the building will be seen from afar on the short sides, its angles. This unique landscape offers little end in front geometrical perception. We wanted to work on the expression of a complex volume to avoid any single side effect and literal as you can see the first door of Orleans, but instead propose a volume and a façade treatment that back and forth to unify the building over its entire periphery. So there is a unity of place generated for a project that must itself generate visual continuity, articulate landscapes, offering a calm picture, stretched taut between two territories.

Spröjs Cabin by Visiondivision

Sunday, March 25th, 2012

Article source: Visiondivision

Spröjs Cabin is a small 40 m2 summer house with a 20 m2 loft to host a normal family of a couple with two to three kids. Although it is fairly small the house includes a kitchen, a living room, a medium sized bathroom and an extra room plus a sleeping loft. The small size and the simple design of the house make it very easy to fit into almost any Scandinavian environment. The interior is however light and modern and very functional to serve the custom-made needs for any particular client.

Article source: Gudmundur Jonsson Arkitektkontor

The Cabin is designed for adaption to multiple settings not taking any particular site into consideration, being a product for mass-production distribution.

The general idea is to establish a Cabin-concept that favours a nice landscape setting with the need of appreciating a wonderful view. Two volumes containing bedrooms and service-area are composed in order to obtain the living and dining room space as glazed pavilion in-between giving contact to the nature in all directions.

Marine Parade Apartments in Maroubra, Australia by Smart Design Studio (designed using MicroStation)

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Article source: Smart Design Studio

This building in Maroubra, Australia accommodates four luxury apartments- one per floor plus a carpark/ services level that is built into the hill. Maroubra has incredible natural beauty with its rocky cliffs, white beaches and crystal blue waters but the urban fabric is unconsidered, uninteresting and largely in decay. Smart Design Studio capitalised on this unique setting by creating a building that focused on the wonderful view from within and, through strong form, has created a handsome building in profile to enhance the urban fabric of this area.

SEA House in Esposende, Portugal by VA studio

Saturday, March 24th, 2012

Article source: VA studio

The outer look of this patch of territory, still showing signs of rural traits, is somehow maintained by making slight corrections along the wall and by putting a new set of site access gates, that will fully preserve which is already standing and assure that it fits the surroundings. The projects’ concept had urban and landscape integration thoroughly into account – it was intended to give the structure a contemporary look, intentionally contrasting with the rustic granite walls.

Alves Martins High School in Viseu, Portugal by Cândido Chuva Gomes, Arquitectos

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

Article source: Cândido Chuva Gomes, Arquitectos

The original building was designed by José Costa e Silva, and opened in April 1948. Two big classrooms volumes were positioned symmetrically, joined by a central body, which included an archway, where the covered recess area operated.

Through a gallery, and from the main hall, the two volumes (corresponding to the old male and female wings) linked themselves to another volume, corresponding to the gymnasium and the dining hall.
