Kanoa Tower in Nantes, France by Studio 02 Architectes

Wednesday, May 25th, 2016

Article source: Studio 02 Architectes

The Kanoa tower is a project that fits into the vast urban development plan for the Island of Nantes.

This is a very understated building, whose shape, worked to the extreme, is the main feature.  To minimize the tower’s impact on the street, it was designed in a “boot” shape and discreetly covered in zinc, which was laid down in shingles to create a scaled effect.

The uprooting from family relationships results being a common condition of comtemporany life, losing affective bonds. Hence, from this project we address the construcction of ways of living not only as social manager, but as a enabler of human connections revealing unexpected relationships that go beyond immediate utility. We want to generate the discovery of new senses, transforming the necessary in desire. Inhabit propitiate new ways of looking, according to Heidegger. “We are as we live in”.

Studio R in São paulo, Brazil by Studio Mk27

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

Article source: Studio Mk27

Facing a small urban square, the Loft Studio opens entirely to the outside. The inner space of this photography studio flows into the side gardens of the building and into the urban space, establishing a spatial continuity between the square and the building. The façade, an aluminum gate is recessed into the concrete binding, integrating the front patio with the square; further, two large swinging metal gates – each more than 11 meters wide – permit fluidity between the gardens and the open space of the studio.

Birraria Giori in Ferrara, Italy by Rizoma Architetture

Sunday, May 22nd, 2016

Article source: Rizoma Architetture

Birraria Giori is located in the centre of Ferrara at the feet of the Este Castle. Its prime location meant that it was very important to take into consideration the historical surroundings. The design was based on the principle objective of restoring the front of the bar which is part of series of arches facing the town hall, know as the “covered way”, part of the Vice-Legato palace dating back to 1877. The primary aim of the project was to “clean up” the original structure or design, stripping off the numerous additions and modifications from over the years to reveal the original form and materiality of the arch, and to provide continuation with the rest of the walkway. The gazebo remains intact, and the windows and a new second ceiling are designed around a motif that reflects the famous lantern which burns at the foot of the Este Castle. The interiors are characterised by the use of wood and stone, the shades of the plaster and the tones of the interior reflect the the equilibrium between the old and the modern. The triangular facets of the new bench seating and also the ceiling, decorated with golden flashes, are based on the rustication of the Palazzo dei Diamanti, the most important historical building of Ferrara.

Casa SE in Jalisco, México by Elías Rizo Arquitectos

Friday, May 20th, 2016

Article source: Elías Rizo Arquitectos

Casa SE was built in a traditionally residential quarter located in the western parts of Guadalajara. It was commissioned as a permanent home for a family of 4 adults. The primordial drive behind the project was to create comfortable spaces and to allow them to establish their own dialogue with the outside through a series of private terraces. The program is accommodated in two levels, with the first floor encompassing the public areas of the house, and the second floor containing the dormitories and various terraces. The prevalence of windows throughout the envelope allows a great deal of daylight to flood the interiors.

Article source: Margot Krasojevic Arcitect

Floating levee piers to trap sediment and divert freshwater:

The idea behind this project attempts to combine an architecture with technology, where by-products of new materials create impossible forms because computer technology has become an inherent part of the design process, such is the application of typology in this project.
