One House_House for Family of Four in Pangyo, Korea by Chang Kyu Lee (GEBDESIGN)

Friday, May 6th, 2016

Article source: Chang Kyu Lee

A house is a place of habitation—a dwelling and shelter. A house is also a home—a place of identity. Just as an individual’s identity is personal (private) and social (public), the home is also a shelter separated from the world (inward) and a place of center from which to explore the world (outward).

Loft Grandpa in Horto, Brazil by MEIUS Arquitetura

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

Article source: MEIUS Arquitetura

The loft is located in the old garage / workshop residence built by Henricão own in the 50’s, located in the Garden neighborhood in BH.

The project arose from the need Grandpa Henricão (Henrique Fernando Tetzç) to have a new place to live with accessibility, as access to the inner area of the house happens for a very long ladder and Grandpa with its 92 years (20 / 04/1923) could not overcome all the steps in an easy way. And with that he went to rent part of the house where he lived to the nearby hospital.

Renewed Classic Eichler in Sunnyvale, California by Klopf Architecture

Thursday, May 5th, 2016

Article source: Klopf Architecture

Klopf Architecture, Growsgreen Landscape Design, and Flegel’s Construction partnered to bring this mid-century atrium Eichler home up to 21st century standards. One owner’s mother grew up in an Eichler, which gave them a deeper appreciation for the style of the home (that same mother is also responsible for the Eichler quilt in the master bedroom photo). They loved Eichlers, so while they wanted the house to work better for their family and provide a little more elbow room, they also dreamed of living in a colorful warm mid-century modern home with natural wood like the original Eichlers. They entrusted Klopf Architecture to respectfully expand and update the home, while still keeping it “classic”. The Klopf team helped them open up the kitchen, dining, and living spaces into one flowing great room, expand the master suite, replace the kitchen and bathrooms, and provide additional features like an office and powder room, all while maintaining the mid-century modern style of this Silicon Valley home.

WOODLAND in Isle of Wight, England by One World Design

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Article source: One World Design

Woodland is near the River Yar and lies within the Causeway Conservation Area. The site was purchased by a retired couple who have made the island their home. Although anxious to preserve the character of the Causeway they wanted to replace an existing timber cottage with a more open dwelling and a new garden. Crucially, they also wanted to be unobserved by passers by.

White Apartment in Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic by Next Level Studio

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016

Article source: Next Level Studio

Over three years lasting reconstruction of the 3+1 apartment in Uherske Hradiste, Czech Republic appealed an endless process of thoughts and construction operations, which finally filled the visions. Every line on a sketch, every statement in a computer programme, as well as every single building block, was considered as crucial everything influencing steps. The most difficult task for an architect – is designing for himself. How to recognize reserves in the design, how to set the limits behind which he doesn’t need to go though the possibilities are finally almost limitless? The design was treated as the opportunity to try out certain procedures, materials and technologies. I am interested in monochrome space, where light can be experimented. White itself has many shades, tones, and valeurs. During the day, the Sun warms the interior with light of 2000 – 3500K. While the artificial evening light set on 4200K, cools the space. Artificial light casts varied shadows, highlights different elements and the interior transmutes. Colour RGB LED strips; hidden in the niches of the furniture, enable dynamic coloration of the space. They can “paint” the space in accordance with the current wishes.

National Grid’s HQ, National Grid House, on the outskirts of Warwick, within view of the Historic Castle, houses some 2800 staff. It is operational 24 hours a day, every day of the year and is a site which controls and is critical to the power distribution infrastructure in the UK.  National Grids commitment to sustainability in all their undertakings has meant that the brief for a new car park on this site would always lead to something extraordinary – with the car park now finished it has literally come alive.

Franz Kafka Society Center in Prague, Czech Republic by STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Article source: STEVEN HOLL ARCHITECTS

The basement of the small one-story building, formerly used for laundry and storage, now houses a space for exhibitions, lectures, and concerts, as well as it accommodates Franz Kafka’s private library. On the first level of the building the Franz Kafka Society has located its offices. The previously dark and dismal spaces of the building are now washed in daylight coming through newly inserted windows and skylights that provide unexpected views to the towers of the Maisel Synagogue. Marcela Steinbachová (Skupina) and Steven Holl Architects have deliberately situated these windows off axis to the interiors. Inside the building new visual connections through openings and inspection holes give its small spaces depth and create visual connections.
