Campanules House in City of Brussels, Belgium by EXAR Architecture

Sunday, February 24th, 2013

Article source: EXAR Architecture

The previous house offered tiny opening to the garden. The “back” rooms, kitchen, bathroom, previously considered as services, blocked the views from the house to the nice garden. We decided to keep these functions but to open them widely, by creating large windows. The kitchen – dining room offers an large open view to the vegetation. The bathroom has focused view to the trees.

Bularnia is an honest, functional office space on the ground floor of postindustrial building on the outskirts of Cracov. The goal was to introduce more natural light to dark and overpowering interior. This move redefined new proportions of space and optically enlarged narrow and low room. What’s more, light and transparent finishing materials, such as glass, delicate steel mesh and perforated boards were used to emphasize the openness of new office space.

Saturday, February 16th, 2013

Article source: Ibarra Rosano Design Architects

Three simple volumes hover above the desert, responding to the challenges of a sloping site and to an ethic of building with minimal disruption to the natural environment. The available buildable area was bifurcated by a minor drainage-way, which inspired the architects to leave the cars behind and link the parking area to the main house by a bridge that allows rainwater and wildlife to flow beneath it.

Article source: In situ studio

Our clients approached us to substantially renovate and make an addition to an existing Deck House north of Chapel Hill. The original house was a 1986 replica of a sixties-era Deck House. When our clients approached us, they had not yet purchased the property. Our first effort was to help them imagine the potential of improving the house. After a successful feasibility study, they purchased the home in December 2010.

Telegraph Hill Addition in San Francisco, California by Michael Hennessey Architecture

Thursday, January 24th, 2013

Article source: Michael Hennessey Architecture

This project renovates an existing two unit, three story residence that was originally built in 1907 on Telegraph Hill in San Francisco. The challenge of the project was determining the relationship of the fourth story and roof deck addition to the historic structure below. The resulting approach was to provide cement board panels at the addition creating a subtle material shift between new and old. The use of a consistent dark grey color visually unifies the addition with the existing form.
