Fire Station in Utrecht ,The Netherlands by Van Rooijen Nourbakhsh Architecten

Saturday, March 23rd, 2013

Article source: Van Rooijen Nourbakhsh Architecten

The program consists of a garage for 3 fire trucks, dressing rooms, workshops office and instructions areas and a cafeteria. The fire station is situated in a suburban area with mainly traditional housing. On the relatively small site a two floor building was designed with a cubic shape. The floor plans are very compact and functionally designed to support speedy action in case of fire and emergencies. One has to reach a calamity within 8 minutes. In contrast with the brick of the houses in the area the fire station was given a specific character expressing the professionalism of the fire brigade.

Vallpala Sports Centre in Castellón, Spain by Vicente Salvador + Ignacio Vidal arquitectos

Thursday, March 21st, 2013

Article source: Vicente Salvador + Ignacio Vidal arquitectos

The sports facility completes a public urban block where it stands currently theHonoriGarciaHigh School, the local council sports pavilion and the local council swimming pool building.  Given that the entirety of the block is publicly owned, the first thing to establish was the definition of the site to occupy.  With the aim of getting a well rationalised and arranged organisation of built elements and resulting in-between spaces, it was decided to establish the length of the existing sports pavilion as the width of the site, leaving at either side pedestrian streets to access the neighbouring facilities.

Article source: Guzmán de Yarza Blache Architect

The commission is originated by the need from the school to augment the total surface of the courtyard that due to the great amount of students and parents that usually gather during the day, can sometimes obstruct the correct developing of the sports and leisure activities that should take place in it. The courtyard is 33 meters wide per 35 meters long and has a South East Orientation. It is formed by the existing school that has a U form with two wings, one from the 50´s and another one form the 70´s.

The University Of Versailles Science Library in France by Badia Berger Architectes

Tuesday, March 19th, 2013

Article source: Badia Berger Architectes

SITE | the articulation of the building with its environment
The site, situated on the campus of the University of Versailles, falls within the historical district of the Château de Versailles which imposes, amongst many constraints, minimal building heights. The campus itself is a historical domain having been the property of the car manufacturing family Panhard. In the nineteen sixties, buildings on campus were built around the « historical centre », constituted by the Panhard pavilion and its gardens. Devoid of any particular character, these structures do not impart a strong identity to the campus.

Platform Zero in Porto, Portugal by A2OFFICE

Sunday, March 17th, 2013

Article source: A2OFFICE

A small space with just over 20m ² was the site for the deployment of this kiosk in the Casa da Música Metro Station in the city of Porto, Portugal. This project was based on the idea of “pause”. Pause between commuting routes (home-work-home, home-school-home, etc.) where one color dominates: the yellow. As in the trilogy of chromatic lights os the semaphores, symbolizes a moment of pause, is among the movement and stopping.

51 Logements à Viry-Châtillon in France by MARGOT-DUCLOT architectes associés

Friday, March 15th, 2013

Article source: MARGOT-DUCLOT architectes associés

Situation

The project finds its place in a band, potentially flooded, between the Seine and the railroad, shores and hillsides. These are occupied by “bourgeoises” mansions, theirs gardens and parks. The riversides shows a mix of  homes, modest or opulent – self-built huts, old houses, speculative operations–industrial plants or deposits expiring or abandoned.

Creating the Nexus for Detroit’s Techtown in Michigan by Payette

Thursday, March 14th, 2013

Article source: Payette

Successful innovation districts are not comprehensively designed from the outset; they mature over time, taking advantage of emerging local talent pools and evolving business clusters of excellence. Nexus, a plan to create an innovation district in Midtown Detroit focuses on proximity, talent growth, culture, and urban density – qualities intensely destabilized in the wake of the city’s economic decline.
