The university library not only offers space to books, it also offers space for knowledge and research. It is a meeting place where ideas are exchanged. The programme allows for a thousand study places. That means that warmth and light will be given to more than three thousand students per day.

University College Ostfold Halden in Halden, Norway by Reiulf Ramstad Architects (Designed using MicroStation)

Wednesday, February 8th, 2012

Article source: Reiulf Ramstad Architects

The key notion of the architectural strategy is the location’s natural features and the use of a limited material palette. The project is situated in an old “culturscape” and special attention is paid to integrate it into its surroundings. The design is based on simple geometrical prisms, lines and slabs composed into a complex lay-out of rooms and functions. Critical functions and lines of communication are emphasized and the building expresses a balance of functional efficiency and open perspectives.

Training workshops + New Design University in St. Pölten, Austria by AllesWirdGut Architektur ZT GmbH

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

Article source: AllesWirdGut  Architektur ZT GmbH

The St. Pölten Technology Center will accommodate two functions: the training workshops of WIFI Lower Austria and the New Design University, St. Pölten. The central idea that informs our proposal is to bring together these two main functions in one building. For one thing, this keeps valuable development areas free for other uses, and for another, it creates an opportunity for interdisciplinary communication between different users.
