Villa Lima in Höllviken, Sweden by Johan Sundberg arkitektur

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

Article source: Johan Sundberg arkitektur

Höllviken south of Malmö is originally a seaside summer resort. A young couple wanted to build a house on a traditional summer house lot that had to be very modern, and at the same time suitable for a flexible family life.

The most economical solution considering the planning regulations of the area is the traditional 1,5- story house most common in the south of Sweden. This strategy would also enable us to save some of the trees and vegetation on the site.

Miryang Pool Villa in Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea by Moon Hoon

Wednesday, January 25th, 2017

Article source: Moon Hoon

Entering my office one morning, a young, lively client in hip-hop fashion proceeded to talk about the Roll House of MOONBALSSO in Miryang. His point was that the building seemed very unique as well as practical. Nevertheless, explaining that he has a favourite form, he showed me a residence with a pool designed by a German architect. I was concerned that he was strongly prejudiced in favor of a specific style that had captivated his heart. After viewing several design presentations, we finally found that the client had very limited tastes biased towards his favourite design. As everything has its end, we finally achieved internal integrity and balance in the design, after spending a lot of time and effort with the client, and eventually coming to an agreement.

Hospice Villa Sclopis in Torino, Italy by architetto Michele De Lucchi S.r.l.

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

Article source: architetto Michele De Lucchi S.r.l.

The eighteenth century villa owned by the Sclopis family, in Salerano Canavese, was used after World War 2 as an orphange, and later as a higher educational institute. The brief was to convert the complex into an assisted residence for terminal cancer and Alzheimer patients. The project restored the family villa and substituted the adjacent reinforced concrete volume with a new, steel-framed structure to accommodate a hospice. Internal floor heights were adapted to those of the older building, so as to eliminate differences of level and facilitate horizontal circulation. A centrally located stretcher-bearing lift integrates the vertical communications to provide quick service to all rooms. The complex was equipped with new heating, plumbing and electrical systems and medical gas supplies. The service units were re-allocated to the ground floor, the communal areas to the first, and the guest rooms to the upper levels. Wooden brise-soleils screen the glazed fronts of the hospice to soften light entering the rooms and to mitigate the impact of the new construction on the surrounding period architecture. The brise-soleil system is extended to the copper cladding of a neighbouring pavilion, internally reorganised to house the Alzheimer patients’ day centre.

Mediterraneo 01 _ Private Villa in Ibiza, Spain by Metroarea Architetti Associati

Sunday, January 8th, 2017

Article source: Metroarea Architetti Associati

The main concept of the building is the fusion of the Mediterranean culture with the natural environment.

Inspired by the roman villa and by Spanish and Arab heritage, the house takes form through the natural lexicon of Italian expressionism (Moretti, Michelucci etc.), which also maintains a strong memory of Rudolf Steiner. For us, infact, designing a contemporary building in 2016 means establishing a dedicated dialogue with history and with nature.

Villa Meijendel in Wassenaar, Netherlands by VVKH architecten

House in dune landscape

A dense forest opens to a dune valley. Sunlight casts shadows of branches and leaves against tree trunks. In the distance, a golfer walks through the empty surreal landscape. This unique environment – trees, light and dunes – influences the design of “villa Meijendel” in such a way as if it has sculpted the house.

House with Villa Silhouette in Lyttleton, New Zealand by Irving Smith Architects

Article source: Irving Smith Architects

House with Villa Silhouette

A house after the Christchurch quakes. One creative home comes down, another goes up, the new silhouetting the old, reminding, resettling, providing lineage.

Where the former villa sat square and inward, the new layers out across the southern view, shaping to the silhouette for light, and framing a greater appreciation of the everyday.

VILLA ASTRID in Gothenburg, Sweden by Wingårdh Arkitektkontor AB

Wednesday, December 21st, 2016

Article source: Wingårdh Arkitektkontor AB

I designed Villa Astrid in the summer of 2002 and Karin completed the details and made improvements throughout the autumn. The site was tucked between two houses and consisted mainly of rugged and fairly steep rock. The detailed plans specified eaves of maximum 3.5 metres high and a roof slope of 14 to 27 degrees. My client had a construction programme for a two-storey building. The answer was to sink the upper floor. That sounds easy, but it took several weeks to design.

VILLA CLESSIDRA in Netherlands by LAAV Architects

Wednesday, December 14th, 2016

Article source: LAAV Architects

Villa Clessidra is a construction of much defined proportions. And as such it is also a bet. A bet in designing freedom within confinement. A bet in allowing continuity with the environment through an austere geometrical structure.

Villa Clessidra is a 200sq.m. 3-level residence of an almost cubic shape, with dimensions 9.7×9.7×10.4m (LxWxH). It has no underground or excavated parts and consists of steel frame and bare (foamboard molding) concrete, only as paneling cladding. Villa Clessidra is hypothetically placed amidst the beautiful pine forest of the Dutch dunes. The surrounding nature communicates with the residence via the use of glass, water and mirrors. The front (South) façade opens up with rotating, sliding windows to allow in the smells, sounds and images of the sublime forest.
