Villa in Kirishima, Japan by Atelier KAN

Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017

Article source: Atelier KAN

It is a villa built in the mountains of Kirishima famous as a summer resort with rich natural hot springs. A spectacular view over Kinko Bay and Sakurajima spreads beyond the south slope. In order to make use of the superb view, we adopted a structure in which the approach level floats as it is against the slope in order to make the viewpoint higher than the grounding property. Also, in order to preserve the natural topography, I widened the jumping part and reduced the ground contacting surface. Horizontal line floating in the vertical line of trees is the essential point of design, finish the roof of the horizontal plane and the floor board white, and the vertical elements such as pillars are made to release concrete with texture. It is an image that the floor board and the wall board protruded from the wall of the concrete piercing the slope.

VILA ROMANA RESIDENCE in São Paulo, Brazil by MMBB Arquitetos

Wednesday, May 17th, 2017

Article source: MMBB Arquitetos

The design of the Vila Romana Residence is derived from the twin imperatives of topography and usage.

It is situated on a corner plot with views of the town’s principal valley, with a drop of 10 meters from one side of the plot to the other.

The first question to be tackled was that of creating an artificial terrain that would allow for easy transit around the external areas and their use for day-to-day activities. The landscaping was determined by the creation of these areas.

360 Villa in The Netherlands by 123DV

Sunday, April 9th, 2017

Article source: 123DV

The family consists of a couple and their beautiful Alaskan malamute dogs. This time, our slogan ‘Living in a tailored suit’ got a special dynamic: the tailoring of our design to the requirements of an ultimate personal experience of living also concerned the arctic dogs that are important in their lives. It is important for the couple to stay in contact with their dogs, both in and outside of the house. The dogs ask a lot of attention and therefore they need a lot of contact with their owners. Also the dogs need a shelter outside.

Prestigious Villa in Ramat Gan, Israel by Dror Barda Architects

Wednesday, April 5th, 2017

Article source: Dror Barda Architects

This prestigious villa is composed of two buildings: A house with a built-up area of about 700 m looking out onto the pool, and a guest house with a built-up area of about 200 m that sits directly on the edge of the pool.

Within the framework of this unique project, we challenged the forces of gravity by means of a floating cube/ark with a size of about 70 m which serves as the master bedroom and is connected by a bridge to another part of the residential floor. The ceiling of the ark is disconnected from the rounded roof above it, and an upper window lets the daylight in (with appropriate lighting also during evening hours), completing the ark’s detachment on all sides.

Behind the somewhat mysterious name ‘Project X’, hides the design of René van Zuuk and his family’s own residence. The villa with a small office space is located next to the architect’s former residence Psyche, in Almere’s The Fantasy district, an area for experimental housing. His old house now serves as the architects office since 2004, it occurred that the two plots could be consolidated into one garden. Article source: Driss Kettani Architecte

This house is projected on a north-south oriented plot and features a blind façade on the street while being largely open on the side and the back with the south oriented garden.

The plan “silhouette” is the consequence of the urban rules and the need to perfectly fit with the adjoining house on the east.
