Villa SSK in Chiba, Japan by Takeshi Hirobe Architects

Wednesday, June 1st, 2016

Article source: Takeshi Hirobe Architects

This architecture is intended to link the beautiful ocean spreading in front and the rocky mountain behind. Requests from the client are living-dining room with kitchen, bathroom with the ocean view, guest room and spare room that can be used as garage. Courtyard is provided, being surrounded by the main quarter, guest room and spare room. It has multiple functions; it serves as a reflecting pool when filled with water; is used as a dog yard; and also becomes exterior living room extended from the interior. It creates an appropriate distance between the main quarter and spare room, yet at the same time maintains the visual axis from the ocean to the mountain while blocking the view from the street. The structure that links the ocean and the mountain is supported by space truss-arch structure and LVL panel wall structure. Here tunnel-like succession of the wooden frames is realized, without installing support walls in the direction perpendicular to the main axis.

Thursday, May 26th, 2016

Article source: Paulo Flores + ggarchitects

Villa Vortex is the result of a collaboration between architect Paulo Flores and ggarchitects for a site in the city of Queretaro, Mexico.

The concept of the project is developed crafting a circulation “vortex” that carefully erodes the interior volume creating a series of patios and triple height zones that articulate the inner spaces defining the dynamic and elegant composition of the project.

Villa 4.0 in Hilversum, The Netherlands by Mecanoo architecten b.v.

Tuesday, May 24th, 2016

Article source: Mecanoo architecten b.v.

A simple bungalow dating from 1967 on a hexagonal ground plan had been radically altered and modified through the years. Although this had made the house bigger, it had also become increasingly inward-looking. The expanding wings were steadily enclosing the heart of the house with the hall and living quarters, and direct contact between the house and the magnificent surroundings was largely lost. The original detailing and material form were consistently adhered to during all previous interventions but the result was now thoroughly outmoded and of a poor technical quality.

The house has now been given its fourth look.

Forma Vila in Ravne Na Koroskem, Slovenia by Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

Sunday, May 1st, 2016

Article source: Arhitektura Jure Kotnik

Forma Vila is a residential house on the outskirts of Ravne na Koroškem, a small Alpine town close to the Slovenian-Austrian border. The town has an over 400 year-long tradition of iron-making, and the local ironworks have had a significant social-economic influence on the town, its sports and culture. The latter has been especially evident since 1964, when the factory started supporting sculpture symposiums “Forma Viva” for artists from all over the world. There are 40 Forma Viva sculptures located all over town, making it a large outdoor gallery, and it is this cosmopolitan project that has given Forma Vila its design context and served as its inspiration. The name itself, Forma Vila, is a play on the words Forma Viva, but the main resemblance between the art movement and the house lies in form and the materials used.

An old stone-built ruin in a breathtaking setting, surrounded by 25 hectares of oak forest with distant views of the Mediterranean sea.

Local building regulations stipulate that the building had to be rebuilt as it once was, but the owners were seeking a more spectacular and modern house.

At the end of one of the prettiest avenues with trees, you will find the location for a new, modernized living farm for a family to live.
