Grace Santorini Hotel & Villa by Divercity & Mplusm

Sunday, September 6th, 2015

Article source: Divercity & Mplusm

This 20-room hotel (a joint project between Divercity and Mplusm) is carved into the cliff-face 300m above Santorini’s volcanic caldera. The understated design allows this extraordinary landscape to take centre stage. The hotel provides a contemporary interpretation of vernacular architecture: economy of space, radical simplicity, and organic forms.

Villa View Vriezenveen in Netherlands by Zecc Architecten BV

Friday, July 24th, 2015

Article source: Zecc Architecten BV

This remarkable residential property is a prime example of how the Dutch landscape is being transformed. Historic farmhouses are making way for new, artificial ones or abstract dwellings. The land itself is increasingly being used for recreational purposes rather than for agriculture. Where, in the past, houses were screened from their surroundings, a good view is now regarded as an attractive feature of any house.

Villa G in Sorengo, Switzerland by SCAPE

Saturday, July 11th, 2015

Article source: SCAPE

The G family home in Sorengo, on the edge of Lugano in Ticino, is the category of villa that Palladio-1 put forward as a contrast with the town house.  The site, a long narrow strip of land on a steep slope, is part of a hilly area, bordered on its short sides by a private road and another property.  On the long sides it is fringed by another site being developed and a wood that is legislatively bound.  To enjoy the fine view of the mountains and part of the lake, the ground level must by raised by three metres.

EM35 CITYVILLA in Metzingen, Germany by Steimle architekten

Thursday, July 2nd, 2015

Article source: Steimle architekten

The strict building regulations reduced the design margins. From these requirements, the architects developed a three dimensional structure that stands out for its sculptural character. The starting point was the clear shape of a cube whose edges follow the building lines and the instructions to the roof design. As with a sculptural work the corners are cut out creating differently proportioned indoor and outdoor spaces. The living area is placed on the top floor, a flowing space that narrows and widens or opens into a corner. Built-in furniture divide the smooth transitions between the different residential areas. The deep cut terraces offer either private or through openable glazing, rubbing shoulders with the city and adjoining vineyard.  The strict building regulations reduced the design margins. Villa Sundsvedja in Dragsfjärd, Finland by Jenni Reuter Architects

Sunday, June 14th, 2015

Article source: Jenni Reuter Architects

Villa Sundsvedja is located in the Dragsfjärd archipelago.

The manor of Söderlångvik was formerly owned by Amos Anderson, a well-known patron of culture. Today it is a museum. In addition, the manor has an apple orchard, greenhouses, agricultural operations, direct sales and a cafe. The estate is owned by the Föreningen Konstsamfundet foundation, which had long been wanting premises to be rented to executives and their families. A beautiful plot was found by the shore about one kilometre from the main building.
