The Project is located in one of the lakes of the reserve due to the lakes keep changing over the course of the seasons; this factor makes them the most dynamic points of the reserve. The Project looks for accentuate the reserve formation process. The proposal emerges from the mixture between the existing ecosystem of the place and the elements that characterized the harbor landscape like containers, cranes, structures and colors.

The access to the project is through a crosswalk which joint in a perpendicular way with a reserve’s existing path. The crosswalk gets sink until the visitor loses its visual register over the reserve. Later, arrives to one of the public spaces of the project. For accessing to the zoo, the user descent to the underground level (-10m).

There, is located the administrative module; where the entrance hall is. The auditorium and the multiple room are at this level, the main circulation can be taken from this point too, it seems like a runway around the three “stones” of the vertical zoo, inside of them, are located the “environments” where the program is developed.

The circulation is developed in a spiral geometry, the visitor goes ascending in a constant way inside the “environments”, this makes different the experience of visiting a zoo. The roofs of every stone become observatories, from there; the users can contemplate all the elements, artificial and naturals that compose the landscape.

The facades are composed by steel, glass and steel mesh. The steel looks for establishing a chromatic and texture relation with the industrial landscape existing at the harbor. The glass allows to keep a constant link visitor-reserve and the mesh looks for accentuate shadows from inside and outside. The facades composition seems like a web formed by the trees of the reserve, their leafs, branches, the game of shadows and lights generated by them.

The school at “Seegarten” is aimed to fulfill what the place’s name “garden at the lake” that existed for century’s promises. Therefore it creates a high-quality exterior space as large as possible. This is important according to the educational mission of the school, and improves the children´s creativity.

The plot is located in the meeting point of various building densities and typologies. To the north, the landscape of the original \”Seegarten\” is still obtained with a very low density. The project marks because of its dimensions the transition between residential and commercial zone but also continues the interweaving of the outdoor spaces of the residential buildings in the east in terms of scale. By this gardens that preserve and enhance the quality of the “Seegarten” are unfolded.

The building consists of two vertically tiered volumes. The gym in the southwest marks the street and incorporates itself into the chain of the buildings at the Romanshornstrasse. The Z-shaped two-story bar, where the school is located, falls to the north with the natural terrain, forming an accessible roof terrace on the north wing.

In the overlap between gym and school buildings, a broad passage is created which immediately opens up to the actual school grounds and forms the outer circulation axis from Romanshornstrasse to Seestrasse. All access is located on this axis. As a bridge the multi-purpose hall connects the two wings on the upper floor and forms a roof for the main entrance and the roofed schoolyard, which is located in the center of the complex. Along the outer axis volume and free space are interweaved. It was taken care of preserving as many valuable trees in the arrangement of the exterior spaces, as they shape the character of the gardens and also serve as visual aids for teaching.

Monterroso is a small village in the province of Lugo famous for its annual fair, more than five hundred years old, celebrated on the Day of the Dead. As often happens in these cases, the health center covers an area larger than the core of the city, and a significantly aging population. To the northwest corner of the block, the bus stop acquires a significant importance, whereas the possible relationship with the municipal headquarters to the northeast is less important.

The building occupies the entire lot. It is bounded on the east and south with urban roads, and on the west with a small green area shared with the aforementioned bus stop. Both the existing slope, as well as the location of the bus stop, suggest an access from the southwest corner.

The building therefore sinks slightly and favors not only the sunlight from the street above, but also its reading as a wall, more appropriate in terms of scale with its rural surroundings. At this access level, pediatrics are located to the south, general consultations to the north, and the reception at the center, with ancillary services behind.

Two volumes emerge from the compact construction; the private area for doctors, with a double-height void above the main entrance, and a skylight that animates the waiting area with the setbacks on the west elevation. Four courtyards filter the contact with the exterior. At the basement level are the areas for women, physiotherapy, dentistry and facilities, lit and ventilated by the sunken courtyards that favor the privacy of views. A continuous slate skin covers facades and roofs, with strategic, galvanized steel openings at the access, courtyards and main openings, which contrasts with the warm oak lined interior

Project:

The project concerns the residential transformation of a warehouse.The client, a real estate developer, required a young and up-to-date look for his new apartments.The design made by LPzR architects keeps the former building perimeter and adds a new livable floor.Four apartments are placed at the ground floor and four at the first floor.

Architectural design:

The main building volume is a simple red parallelepiped.An apparently random pattern of windows is applied, generating dynamic effects on the main façade.The asymmetries of the solid white frames give the façade a unique three-dimensional look.

Adaptation of The Roman Ruins of Can Tacó in Barcelona, Spain by Toni Girones

The archaeological site of Can Tacó in Turó d’en Roina, in the natural setting of Turons de les Tres Creus. In a highly fragmented metropolitan area, arises the need to project some places previous an area with a great natural and archaeological interests.

Built by successive terracing and partly with site stone licorella, what had been an important settlement prior to construction of the Via Augusta, is today a natural viewpoint to the counties of Vallès. It intervenes in the backfill of Roman traces, improving the content (the space) and highlighting the container (the walls).

It has been worked with the lands that over the time covered the remains and are accumulated outside the site produced from the archaeological excavation. These lands, just like the gravels and the rocks of the old supposedly Roman quarry, are selected and tidy, but with a new disposition, giving them a new meaning.

A first steel mesh contains the new stones, and these contain land and gravel that jointly will reproduce the successive horizontal planes where the Romans transited. A second denser and thinner mesh is arranged like a curtain over a period of time, a backdrop where the various archaeological remains are projected.

In this way stone and steel, mountain and industry, living in these landscapes of accumulation and, however, dynamic by the contact between the fragments; interpreting the existing, putting in value and activating, adding and no erasing, and at the same time co-evolving with the environment trying to optimize resources.

Fort Near Hoofddorp in Netherlands by Serge Schoemaker Architects

Dutch architect Serge Schoemaker has revealed his design for the redevelopment of Fort near Hoofddorp (1907) in the Netherlands. With a redevelopment of the historical site local authorities aspire to make the world heritage monument more known and open to the public. Schoemaker’s conversion design transforms the 8’100 m2 large fort island into an open air theater and restaurant.

Fort near Hoofddorp is located in the middle of the Haarlemmermeer polder in the Province of North Holland. The fort is part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam, which extends 135 kilometres around the city of Amsterdam, on a radius of approximately 15 kilometres from the city center. The Defence Line, built between 1880 and 1920, consists of a unique system of inundation areas, including 42 forts. It was inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1996.

Fort near Hoofddorp was realized as a two level building because of the limited size of the construction site. The fort island encompasses several underground tunnels which connect the former gun emplacements, among others the unique caponier at the circular fort moat. The 1’200 m2 fort building is made out of in-situ concrete without reinforcement. The concave shaped concrete ceiling of the upper floor has a thickness of up to 1.8 metres to hold attacks of enemy gun fire.

The redevelopment design of Fort near Hoofddorp will envision a restoration of both the fort building and island. An entrance bridge will reappear on its original position above the fort moat. Offering great views over the historical surroundings, the small elevated square on top of the fort island will become the new heart of the island: the surrounding green-clad fort walls enclosing the square will be converted into terrace-shaped tribunes generating a 300-seat open air theater.

During conversions in the past the massive room-dividing walls within the fort building have been demolished. The historically incorrect but spacious situation has been used to create an interior design which both refers to the original layout and benefits from the new characteristics: dark wooden tables will be hung using black steel frames at the lowest points of the massive concave ceilings; the former positions of the room-dividing walls. The hung table constructions will emphasize the solidness of the concrete ceiling in a functional way.
