April 16th, 2014 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: Interface Studio Architects + Sullivan Goulette & Wilson

This 8-unit townhouse development occupies a well located site in the emerging Logan Square neighborhood northwest of downtown Chicago, just two blocks from a major train station. The open floor plans and flexibility of the interiors reflect a sense of simplicity and respond to the needs of contemporary living. The exterior strategy uses fiber cement lap siding and large metal window projections in a composition that retains a sense of a coherent urban block while marking each home as unique.

A U-shaped volumetry is planned for the initial layout.

Three excavations are to be done on corners. As they will break down the initial volume, they will allow more sunlight and comfort for the patio.

The south-facing garden area presides as the community centre.

Mixed Use Infill 3 Houses and an Office in Antwerp, Belgium by Collectief Noord Architecten

April 15th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Collectief Noord Architecten

Three pavillions and a house give shape to an urban garden in the city centre. Each pavillion is similar to the other, but differ like brothers do. Concrete garden blocks in the facade sustain the expression of a garden folly and remind us of the attempts of Wright and Sullivan to democratize ornament. On top of each pavillion there is a roof pavillion: a garden in a garden in the city.

Constituyentes Illuminated Facade in Mexico City, Mexico by Taller David Dana Arquitectura

April 15th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Taller David Dana Arquitectura

This Project is located at Constituyentes 1072, one of the main avenues in Mexico City. The architectural approach integrates a front entry plaza that works as a boundary or transition between the building and the street. The office complex integrates 5 levels and has the great advantage of inserting natural day lighting in all four facades. All the floor plans are equal besides the fifth floor which has a frontal cantilever that is being supported with a metal structure of 23 meters of altitude. The main disadvantage of this structural skeleton was that is exposed in an area of high exposure.

In Izabelin Północny near Warsaw, at Białego Orła street, a villa of shingles and gabions was built to a design by Barycz and Saramowicz Architectural Office. This imposing, luxurious residence is contrarily called A Little House in the Forest, with reference to a playful name of the pre-war villa of the great Polish writer, Melchior Wańkowicz, located in Żoliborz in Warsaw (“The Tiny House”), as it is located on a beautiful plot of land, covered with old pine trees.

  • All the buildings find inspiration from beautiful scale and proportion.
  • They fit together and the spaces between buildings are as important as the structures themselves.
  • The bay windows that act as lanterns of energy.

Lingo Construction Services in Oklahoma City, OK by Elliott + Associates Architects

April 15th, 2014 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: Elliott + Associates Architects

Located in the historic Automobile Alley District of Oklahoma City the design seeks to transform an existing 1930 historic masonry and steel building into a modern office space. The character of the 12,000 sq. ft. two story building, originally built for Sharp Auto Supply Co, had been diminished by thick layers of paint, historically inaccurate additions, and years of misguided design efforts.

The building covers the entire lot. There is 10 feet of additional space on the north end that allowed us to construct a fire stair, mechanical enclosure, and covered outdoor deck. This exterior construction made it possible to leave the interior intact. The open framing is consistent with the exposed studs on the interior that dramatizes the construction behind the walls., Image Courtesy © Scott McDonald, Hedrich Blessing
