Master students from Aalto University have created an art installation “Transpalastik” during the workshop with Plastique Fantastique. The artwork is placed in the courtyard of Kluuvi galleria, where the urban landscape meets with an artificial world.

The concept was developed based on the thought of transitions from one world to another.

Patio Campina Grande in Brazil by Girimun

Patio is a phased project that brings a refreshing look at how to think and conceive a truly mixed-use development to the Northeast of Brazil. It consists of 40,000 sqm shopping and entertainment centre in a 3-storey podium interlinked with 2 office towers, 1 hotel and 4 residential apartment blocks. The master plan revolves around a central outdoor square and explores synergies, efficiency and convenience between the various components of the project suggesting a new and contemporary way to live, work and play.

At the height of the financial crisis, the Science and Technology Campus of the Linares Foundation decided in 2008 to cope with the different settings and industrial dismantling of the region, with a project that will promote research and innovation and the development economic and social revitalization of this ill treated and deprived  neihgborhood. A project has come true thanks to the unwavering support of all social, economic and political leaders in the region.

superKOLMEMEN is an urban intervention, popping up temporarily for one week in the center of Helsinki, which will change the view and the perception of the place (Kolmen sepän aukio). The daily life scene, happening in the square that people pass by, sit, walk or drive through, will be converted to a playful environment where people can gather, talk, dance or relax. superKOLMEMEN will offer cultural experiences extending the summer fever to autumn – with a programs organised together with Helsinki Design Week.

Seattle’s KEXP Public Radio $15 million Broadcast Complex by SkB & Walters-Storyk Design Group (WSDG)

A six-year fundraising, location search, design and build program culminated in April 2016 with the completion of KEXP 90.3 FM Radio’s 25,000 sq. ft. $15 million state-of-the-art broadcast/live production complex. Nestled in the shadow of Seattle Center’s iconic Space Needle, KEXP remains an essential part of Seattle’s legendary music scene, and epitomizes Public Radio’s stature within the local, national and global radio/Internet listening community.  Funding for the complex was raised by a successful on-air campaign and augmented by foundation, corporate, local entrepreneur and local government support. KEXP is a Public Broadcast Station in the truest sense of the word.

This project is the renovation of a unit in a twenty-five year old apartment building for a married couple. We inserted a single wooden wall into the unit, which is already partitioned by the existing structural concrete walls. Passing from the entrance through the entire interior space, the wooden wall organizes a series of spaces along its length.

Gamboa Office Suits in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil by Girimun

Nestled within the triangular site of the Gamboa Olimpic Villa is this new low-rise business park of modern office suites units. Adjacent to the listed and restored railway depot warehouses known as “Galpões da Gamboa”. The buildings evolve around open courtyard gardens exposing the heritage warehouses and offering a mix of offices and shop units at ground level, all in pursue of an urban sense of human scale that respects the urban context and inspired the design.
