The South Yard, namely a southern courtyard, is located in Sanjia, Yangshan Village, Guling Town, Mashan County, Nanning, Guangxi Province. Through ages, this tranquil and plain village has been settled by three clans: Huang, Liang and Tang, thus named Sanjia (Three Surnames). The unparalleled Karst Landform surrounds the village, forming a greenary barrier naturally. In the bottom of mountains, a brooklet flows slowly through the village, with children swimming and housewives washing vagetables and clothes beside it. The melodious sound of three-part folk music comes from far away, attractive and pleasant to the ear.

Monochromatic, distinguishing the house volume detaching it from the rest. White, so its emphatic forms are not mixed with the environment.

Its symmetry creates a linear, compact look, reserving all the intimacy to the back facade, completely open to the lake.

Northern Rivers Beach House in Northern NSW, Australia by REFRESH*DESIGN

November 8th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: REFRESH*DESIGN

Located in a beachside setting, the architectural brief for this project was to design a contemporary, yet cost effective three-bedroom house, well connected to nature and featuring subtropical open-plan living in a temperate climate. The initial premise for the design was to ‘re-interpret’ the beach house by integrating traditional materials of corrugated metal, fibre cement sheeting and timber elements, onto a contemporary and dynamic shape.

PORTA NOVA (a new Gateway)

How should we design a place facing the remains of Alcudia’s historical walls? What action to take opposite to the historical fortifications in there since times of Jaume II? A reinterpretation of the walled citadel and the site´s symbolism gave us the key to solve the proposal.

Rural hotel complex (oil tourism) in Ciudad Real, Spain by ideo architecture

November 6th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: ideo architecture

The oil-tourism will step on strong in the near future. The developer of this rural resort knows this and has launched in La Mancha (land where Miguel de Cervantes got inspired to write El Quijote), a resort dedicated to oil.

In this hotel, designed by the architect Sergio Peralta, Ideo Arquitectura has done some interior design works: lighting, new façade openings, doors, wash basins, designer beds, stairs, kitchen, etc. The Architect, Virginia del Barco, has also designed the auxiliary furniture, such as mirrors, water taps, the patio water fall and the three coloured “ideo” sofa. All these has been done with much care and with the aim that the guest finds a world of different and new sensations in every detail. None of the construction elements has been manufactured in series. As an example, a more than 3 meter long metal beam becomes a washbasin. Two inclined trays collect the water driving it under the sink, which has also been designed by the Firm.

Neu Leopoldau in Vienna, Austria by feld72 Architekten ZT GmbH

November 6th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: feld72 Architekten ZT GmbH

Smart environment for young and young-at-heart home living on the outskirts of the city in a post-industrial complex. Strategies for creating community: this starts with identification through the design and continues with the quarter’s connecting ring structure and the belt formed by the wall surrounding the property, with special communication areas reflecting the layering principle of the building. A residential building as smart module of social life: tiered and networked communal zones and communication areas create the village in the buildings, and special extra spaces for whatever self-development is to be defined in the surrounding homes connect the private with the (semi-) public sphere. A building as a very flexible structure able to inspire the imagination and joie de vivre.

CLOYS Apartment in Paris, France by Atelier 56S

November 6th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Atelier 56S

An ancient parking lot was divided into different apartments in the heart of Paris. To transform this raw surface into apartments, the project management wanted the structure to keep its industrial aspect.

The main challenge was to take advantage of the unique light source: South-oriented and situated in one of the apartment’s angles. The idea was to compact the night area to benefit from a higher flexibility in the living space. Peripheral wood furniture, serving as library, kitchen, desk and storage, was made to create space and visual continuity in the whole apartment. A mobile wall can occasionally be used to host friends.

The concrete beams and ceiling remain to keep the spirit of the place, while lessening the resonance thanks to a wooden slats-made false ceiling.
