Haus S in Bolzano, Italy by bergmeisterwolf architekten

five vacation apartments, connected by the base (garage), are twisted around a shared courtyard. house s aims to be one with the site, the landscape, and the village. following the houses of the neighborhood, the traditional materials of stone and wood are used: natural stone for the base and quartered logs for the façade. the house, placed on an incline, follows local topography only breaking at edges in the terrain. the house outgrows and yet grows into the landscape at the same time – a twist. the house’s position along a street results in a sort of yard in the back part with a vista towards a clearing – a natural recreation area. the upper part of the building, made of wood, lies on the stone base. its height and movement complies with the surrounding rooftops. however, it allows for free vistas between the rooftops of the neighboring houses, revealing wide-open views of the landscape. the result is a sort of movement, a dynamic that includes the neighboring houses without them being the main focus.

Article source: Rena Sakellaridou & Morpho Papanikolaou, SPARCH

We recycle ideas, architectural concepts, structures, buildings, materials. We experiment with hybrids that step out from what exists and are transformed through new programs. How do you transform the former paper factory in Marzabotto into a place for culture, development and innovation? How do you recycle this old industrial plant into new life and uses? How do you give the Green Academy strong presence?

Denis Hurley fought for equality of all and social justice.  In 1951, at age 31, he became the youngest Catholic bishop in the world and the archbishop of Durban. He retired as archbishop in 1992, becoming chancellor of the University of Natal from 1993 to 1998. He continued to work as parish priest of Emmanuel Cathedral well into his eighties.  He was an outspoken opponent of apartheid and a driving force in a 1957 declaration by the bishops of South Africa that described apartheid as “intrinsically evil”.   Archbishop Denis Hurley dedicated a great part of his live to defend the rights of the underprivileged, in an extremely difficult and politically turbulent period in the history of this country. The Shadow House in Mumbai, India by Samira Rathod Design Associates

Set on the foothills of Maharashtra in Alibaug, far away from the busy city life of Mumbai. The plot was a dry barren piece of parched earth. When I first saw it, there were two lonely trees; a view of the hills in the distance and dry fields all the way to the sky, all around.

In that scorching heat, there was only one desire- to be lulled back into that familiar dark, cold, calmness.

After two decades of infrastructural and urban development, China is now also expanding rapidly in the tourism sector. To promote faster growth, the Chinese government declared several “tourism formation zones”. One of these is the area around the spectacular Changbai volcano in the province Jilin, adjoining the border to North Korea. The region is dominated by vast forests that extend as far as Siberia. The permafrost between November and April makes the area a potential tourist mecca for winter sports.

Apartment For A Guy and Even Two of Them in Poznań, Poland by Grupa Metaforma

June 4th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Grupa Metaforma

In this world everything is clear – a simple form, minimalistic colors selection, natural materials. This concept of design has been dictated by the male point of view from the very beginning.

The apartment was purchased in the fall and when the architects entered it, they noticed an exceptional view of the old trees in the neighborhood. Yellow, red and brown colors were the perfect background.
