Long House HS in Harbor Springs, Michigan by Dudzik Studios

October 14th, 2020 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: Dudzik Studios

Harbor Springs Bluff House’s raison d’etre is its sweeping view of Little Traverse Bay. Nothing impedes the intimacy one experiences with nature; the house is a theater with the bluff and the bay providing the performance. As you arrive down the axial driveway, the trees on the site frame the center section of the house, which is covered in ipe and steel grat-ing. If we are to think of the dynamic and shifting view across the bay as theater, then this wooden wall is a curtain comprised of a series of offset panels with alternating horizontal and vertical siding overlaid with steel grating. As the woman of the house is a weaver/mathematician; this woven façade references her passion. You will also see her influence through the Fibonacci sequence, which became a primary vetting framework for the design.

Pop music, while a global phenomenon, is regional in its definition. The Taipei music scene typifies the phenomenon; while it crosses borders and cultures and dialects, it nevertheless has produced styles and genres with distinct transnational form and appeal. Though many aspects of pop culture exist in a hyper-technological or virtual realm, there is a need for a defined physical hub dedicated to the production and reception of pop.

MeeHotel is a new urban resort hotel in the city of Shenzhen, China aims to give business travelers a peaceful state. The project location is called “Bamboo Forest”, so we naturally generate our story from this name.

Starting from the lobby space, bamboo was selected as the key material to let customers enter the lobby space and greeted by sophisticated light and shadow effect on the main wall. Various on-site tests & experiments with traditional bamboo weaver were done to create full height screens to define reception and lobby lounge area. Pitched roof ceiling and natural diatom mud finished walls overlay by articulated light and shadow effects provide a minimal and leisure experience for the entire space.

Situated on a prominent site that captures a beautiful view of the Puget Sound, this 6000 sf building is a highly visible landmark in its growing community.
The building’s rectangular form is punctuated by a two-story glass atrium that serves as the entry lobby and vertical circulation space. The surrounding environment is used to the building’s benefit with natural sunlight and air being utilized to create a comfortable and open office space. Additionally, a rain garden holds water until it is absorbed into the soil, helping to create a lively planted area. These nature-utilizing features not only make for a beautiful space, but also reduce utility costs significantly.

T3 Audi Design Center in Ingolstadt, Germany by gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

October 11th, 2020 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: gmp · von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects

The Audi Design Center (DCI) at the company’s original site at Ingolstadt has now been operational for three years and has been extensively tested in practice by employees. What they found was also of great interest to the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp), who spoke with Mario Linke, Head of Audi Design Management. For the first time ever, the entire design development process has been accommodated under one roof. An open and bright building has been created to a design by gmp. The closely guarded secrets are nevertheless kept hidden on the inside; this is achieved with a horizontally structured facade consisting of a folded, highly reflective glass curtain wall. During the hours of darkness, venetian blinds ensure the required confidentiality.
