Free-Space Is A Pre-Fabricated, Modular, System Of Components That Can Be Assembled, Disassembled, And Reassembled Into Many Different Configurations, In Order To Create Many Different Kinds Of Structures. These Structures Can Be Used As Very Functional Places Such As Pavilions, Or They Can Be Developed Into Various Kinds Of Non-Functional Sculptures. All Of The Structures Can Be Made From Bolting Together Two Panel Types. Both Panel Types Are Curved To An Eleven Foot Radius And Are Four Feet Wide, And Eight Feet Long. Each Of Them Is Made From Three Curved Steel Pipe Frames, Which Are Connected Together With A Series Of Wood Slats. The Slatted Panels Can Be Bolted Together End To End In Either A Horizontal Or Vertical Orientation. If The Panels Intersect Anywhere In The Structure, They Can Also Be Bolted Together At That Intersection. If The Panels Are Used To Create More Functional Structures Like This Shade Pavilion, Solar Panels Can Be Attached To The Curved Slatted Panels (In The Appropriate Location) In Order To Provide Solar Electric Power For Use In And Around The Pavilion. A Personal Shade Pavilion Is Shown Here With A Solar Panel Attached To One Of The Curved Slatted Panels. A Storage Cylinder, Two Lounge Chairs, A Dinning Table, And A Hammock, Are Placed Under The Shade Canopy For Use As A Special Summer Retreat Place.

Making a landscape from a building was the ruling concept that guided this project search on the demand presented by the licitation for the building of a “Córdoba Province Interpretation Centre” to commemorate the Argentine Republic Bicentennial. The main challenge was to incorporate The Province Historical File and an the Auditorium without modifying the project essence.

Costa House in Almada, Portugal by Joao Tiago Aguiar Arquitectos

The house where our intervention took place consists of a villa located in the seaside resort city of Costa da Caparica. This is a specific and surgical intervention in a highly deteriorated villa from the seventies. Although the refurbishment seemed urgent the financial contention demanded that the substantial architectonic intervention was limited to the 1st floor, attic and terrace over the garage, the rest of the house being renovated in a simpler and more convenient way.

SG House in Rosà, Italy by Studio di Architettura Claude Petarlin

A detached house built on three levels and situated in a small rural village, in an agricultural context consisting of land planted with corn. The entrance opens directly onto the living area, through sliding windows overlooking the double height porch. The outdoor paving continues even inside the house, to emphasize the close relationship with the surrounding countryside. The project is based on the strong contrast between the outside of the house, more rustic and tied to local building traditions, and the interior, more contemporary, with smooth spaces arranged in succession, without interruption.

Applecross McCowan Residence in Perth, Australia by iredale pedersen hook

Article source: iredale pedersen hook

Our clients desired a building that would endure time, evoke a sense of permanence and a sense of already existing on the site. Brick was the natural choice that immediately met this requirement.

The site sits on the edge of the Swan River with views to the city of Perth. The design creates an experiential connection to the meandering river, a fluid and dynamic body of water that has carved out mass forming a direct engagement with the occupant.

The Gate in Busan, Korea by Hyunjoon Yoo Architects

January 19th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Hyunjoon Yoo Architects

I was surprised twice when I first visited the Daekyoung Factory. The first surprise was the beautiful scenery of the mouth or the river of the Nakdong River, and the second surprise was that the beautiful scenery could not be seen at all from the factory complex. There were three buildings in the complex, with two buildings lined up on parallel lines, making a rectangular plaza. The plaza was busy, with many workers passing by. The third building was placed perpendicularly with the plaza, blocking the scenery towards the sea. I felt sorry for the factory workers, who are so close to the beautiful scenery, but could not even see it.
