Article source: Team V Architecture

The a.s.r. headquarters in Utrecht have been completely renovated by Team V Architecture. The colossal office building of 86,000 square meters now complies fully with current standards of sustainability, comfort and appearance. The new climate facade, spacious voids and green winter gardens provide a pleasant office environment with plenty of natural light. The renovation made the outdated seventies building much more energy efficient; the energy consumption has been reduced by over 50%. Remarkably, the building remained in continuous use during the renovation.

From the architect. The first mission of the Acrobatic Arts Center building was placed in the city as a container of culture, in which the citizen forms an essential part of it. it is in this relation where the building is completed.

The proposal is based on the communion of two architectural elements which support activities to develop and allow the solution to problems and intentions raised: A first element is the platform that seeks to tie the city, outside, with the existing topography. This platform allows citizens to connect with the building inside.

Our proposal’s aim is to make the people an active part of the building’s life, by exploring it, by being seen and by simply coming together, breeding a sense of tolerance, awareness, identity and mutual respect. The building was envisaged as a democratic place for all people and a centerpiece for a regenerated area of the city, transforming the historic building in a vibrant cultural center that highlights the importance of cultural activities for the contemporary time.

Haus Dolomitenblick in Sexten, Italy by Plasma Studio

August 23rd, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Plasma Studio

The building is located on a hillside in the Dolomites, at the end of a residential area.

The volume has been developed mainly from its pragmatic functional request to host 6 independent apartments with one common circulation: through a cut that marks the main access and the division of the units the volume is splitted into 2 halves. Besides its functional meaning this incision becomes the main defining element of the building: from the cut at either side a strip unfolds that forms the balustrade of a generous covered balcony and ends into the surrounding topography. Following the steep natural hillside with each floor the strips and the façade jump back.

KulturØen is a place where different cultural activities meet under the same roof – the local library, the local tourist information, the local cinema and café, as well as conference facilities and a restaurant. The implementation of a new spatial design has improved the cooperation between these cultural activities in the space.
