House Daasdonklaan in Roosendaal, Netherlands by zone zuid architecten

July 10th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: zone zuid architecten

Dutch design office zone zuid architecten recently completed a new home in one of the suburbs of Roosendaal. The 225 sq m house is designed as a deconstruction of a traditional Dutch house silhouette, several floors for living with a gable roof.

The main goal was to create a strong relation between the interior and the exterior of the plot. For example the house is placed on a raised terrace. This terrace becomes part of the living space but also the other way around. The volumes are then shifted relative to each other and are abstracting the silhouette.

Dear Design were commissioned to design the new location of Dehesa Santa Maria in terminal T1 of Barcelona airport.

The objectives for this project were: to create a specially designed space for the boarding area, where one can comfortably pass time before long-haul flights. The surface was broadened and as it grew, it was essential to reorganize the space with fluid and intuitive paths. As the restaurant is located next to the glass facade, it was necessary to créate an element which provided shade and played with the sunlight.

ROC Mondriaan in The Hague officially opened the schools that were renovated by Fokkema & Partners to become a new Hospitality Campus. At the opening, the Mayor of The Hague Van Aartsen stated: ‘This new campus is an asset to the city and for education in the region’. Today more than ever, the school can cooperate with the city and local business opening its facilities for events and meetings. The design by Fokkema & Partners provides the students with a fully equipped and bright learning environment as well as with a vibrant heart where they can practice their skills. Organized around a grand café in the central atrium there are several restaurant “pockets”. These pockets with different hospitality concepts each have their unique style and offer splendid views of the student activity in the preparation kitchens. A new canopy over the entrance accentuates the view into the grand café depot.

The Loft, with 105 m2, is located in the south zone from São Paulo, in a strictly residential buildings neighborhood, basically from the 80 and 90 decade. For this reason we started from a traditional compartmentalized apartment with exaggerated number of divisions and closed rooms if related to its area.

Three interventions make up the proposal:

  1. Marinadour. A dense complex of dwellings on top of a podium of shops and car parks.
  2. The Park generated by reorganizing circulation and segregating the traffic above from pedestrians, with the massive presence of vegetation between the footpaths.
  3. Rivadour. A continuous urban block that follows the river before breaking off towards the city. Permeable on the ground floor.

THROUGH HOUSE in Ontario, Canada by DUBBELDAM inc. architecture + design

July 10th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: DUBBELDAM inc. architecture + design

A busy doctor commissioned the renewal of this 128 year-old house to fulfil his desire for a modern and light-filled home with a connection to the outdoors. Situated on a narrow lot in a dense downtown neighbourhood, the renovation of this 135 s.m. residence also aimed to provide increased living space on the interior. However, in order to preserve the intimate rear garden, the design challenge was to ‘expand’ the interior space without increasing the footprint of the house. This was accomplished by a rethinking of traditional programme, utilizing built-in place elements and changes in ceiling heights to define spaces rather than walls, and by creating a powerful visual connection with the small backyard to extend the living space. The dark, cramped interior was carved out to create bright, airy spaces connected by an open plan. Materials and built-ins are designed to emphasize linearity – horizontal lines of rift cut white oak millwork, linear divisions of cabinets and display units, stacked strips of industrial felt on the fireplace, and long porcelain tiling with a linear pattern; they create the perception of expanding and stretching the space and direct the eye through the house towards the rear garden.
