LUMINA Condominium Development in Folsom St., San Francisco by II BY IV DESIGN

October 26th, 2016 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: v2com

In San Francisco, where it’s notoriously harder to find a place to live than it is to find a job, breaking into the real estate market can be difficult. San Francisco is a compact city of less than 50 square miles situated on steep hills and surrounded on three sides by water, which means new development has historically been limited. That is until 1989 when an earth quake destroyed portions of the double-deck Embarcardero freeway; the road was sadly demolished, but it opened up areas for new development and new opportunity.

Gold Hall Residence in Malibu, California by Stephen Phillips Architects (SPARCHS)

Giving a face lift to an otherwise aged 1960s Malibu Canyon track home, Stephen Phillips Architects (SPARCHS) creates a sparkling contemporary gem.

Located all too near the notorious Piuma Canyon Brush fires, executive television producer Ted Gold and his wife Cara Hall, a graphic designer, took on the challenge to purchase an all wood-sided shed-roof modern home and transform it into something original and beautiful. Working with a minimal budget one step at a time, they hired local California architect Phillips to make a series of strategic surgical design procedures to update, rejuvenate, and fortify their painfully drab house with elegance and style.

The House is located in Las Araucarias de Linderos Golf Club, 30 km at south of Santiago.

The plot face the golf course in a corner in two of its sides, situation that gives a great perspective and views of the landscape but at the same time an overexposure of the privacy of the house.

This house is a combination of a new architectural entity with an existing house, which has been constructed by “Federación del caucho” in a working-class neighborhood.

The house, which has an irregular slab framed with inverted beams and supported on the main walls, can be identified in most of the constructions of the neighborhood. It has a good construction quality. Now, this neighborhood has become from a working-class to a high-valued district.

House of Rolf in Utrecht, The Netherlands by Studio Rolf.fr and Niek Wagemans

Article source: Studio Rolf.fr

Introduction

‘House of Rolf’ is an ambitious transformation of a late nineteenth century coach house into a spectacular home and workspace. What is truly unique about this project is that all the materials used to carry out this transformation originated from a demolished office building that was located next to the coach house. The care and meticulous way in which these materials were reapplied can be witnessed in the end result. ‘House of Rolf’ is proof that waste can be turned into something beautiful.

The Malleable Autonomous Retreat House by Jantzen Studio

October 25th, 2016 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Jantzen Studio

The Malleable Autonomous Retreat House was designed as a special interactive, prefabricated, painted wood retreat place for two people, in a remote location. It basically consists of a large exterior canopy, which is fitted with 32 slotted panels that are hinged in the middle, and at one end. All of these panels can be automatically moved up or down with small electric gear motors and/or manually folded up or down with hand operated geared cranks, in order to manipulate the quality of the space below, and at the same time change the shape of the entire structure. Whenever all of the panels are closed (or in the flat position) the house retains a simple rectangular form. In this position, the space under the canopy is entirely shaded, and blocks most of the wind. As the hinged panels are opened to any degree, the shape of the house begins to change into a totally unpredictable form, which can be based on the desired climatic conditions under the canopy, and/or just aesthetic preferences. Two of the largest panels are clad with solar panels, which supply all of the electricity for the house. These panels can also be folded up or down to adjust to ideal angles for capturing the most energy from the sun.

“House G in G – Second Nature” in Göttingen, Germany by Matti Schmalohr DI Architekt BDA DWB

Article source: Matti Schmalohr DI Architekt BDA DWB

This brick villa in Göttingen classical modernism had on its own sense as a starting point. But in the specific organic expression of “human modernism” by the Finnish architect Alvar Aalto (1898 – 1976). “Second Nature” headlined the retrospective of the work of Alvar Aalto, which showed the Vitra Design Museum in the previous year. Of course arose with the composed a Geländeversprung in north-south orientation Villa in Göttingen no homage to a bygone era architecture. The construction date of the year 2014 and can not be concealed. The parallels are in the atmospheric, in the furnace unit, consistency and love of nature of the draft.
