The property, situated just beyond the ocean dunes, was purchased with a partial foundation and permits in place for a traditional, shingle style residence. The owner presented us with the challenge of designing a modern residence, which thoroughly integrated the indoor and outdoor spaces, for their family of four on exactly the permitted building footprint.

House B in B – Larch Gold and Glacier White by Matti Schmalohr DI Architekt BDA DWB

April 18th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Matti Schmalohr DI Architekt BDA DWB

This single storey longhouse in the park is a retirement home of a wine merchant and his wife, in close proximity to their children. Placed between two 60-year-old trees, the building is in close contact with the trees, includes the Siberian larch clad building the land from urban development. The larch façade and on the roof underscores the monolithic character of the archetypal house. The foundation of the south-facing wood construction forms the historical underground wine cellar, which is accessible from the outside. Sliding doors inside and outside connect with nature and allow the housing in an extending up to the front door, structured rocket ship. The sheltering Gable roof with its sky images always remains present.

The project has two objectives: on the one hand, and dialectically interacts dynamically with the surrounding context, both the connotation of natural green park is artificial, urban and contemporary Quarter Island; on the other hand, gives body to a structure characterized by great flexibility of composition and organization, in full respect of public destination and functions identified. An architecture that shapes, materials and design, integrates and permeates in the green, while maintaining its definite individuality: a distance dialogue between artificial and natural. The building itself contains the souls formal and organizational of the park: the geometric rigor of the design of the meshes of the fields and the orderly organization curvilinear forest circular; However, it reverses the order and spatial relations and displacement: the plans are settled and are arranged vertically in overlapping; warps the closed circular logging is deconstruct opening in sinuous waves and irregular, which, like the natural scenery which surround, taking forms and aspects always different and define forms and public functions intended to evolve and change according to the needs of its users.

This hair salon “BLISS” is a tenant interior design project on the second floor of the building, located near the Komachi St. in Kamakura. Request from the client is hybrid of 2 main identity in Kamakura, luxury and surf culture, which is a proposed analysis of preference and age group of the target that comes from the client’s experience. We set the light effect to enjoy different feeling from natural light in daytime to indirect illumination at night. In the entrance, after walking throw 2 main gate silently on the carpet as a check in high class hotel, counseling and reception counter is placed as if a concierge desk. Next to the counter, waiting space surrounded by white bamboo has a function of a buffer between cut space and lounge space. Between cut space and shampoo space, green screen is installed as a see throw partition, creating the soft atmosphere of the space. We challenged to direct two atmosphere in one space by changing contrast of light effect with material.

Anne de Bretagne secondary school in Saint-Herblain, France by Philippe Gazeau

West of Nantes, the new Collège Anne de Bretagne secondary school at St-Herblain stands out in the location as a feature linking a town park, various neighboring public utilities and the Loire valley landscape. The project fits into the site through an irregular base dressed in timber powerfully set into the slightly sloping land. This rough ground floor bears a much simpler looping figure that tapers on the upper floor housing the classrooms. The base blends in with the immediate vicinity while the upstairs area looks out over the landscape further afield.

Care Implant Dentistry in Sydney, Australia by Pedra Silva Architects

April 17th, 2015 by Sumit Singhal
Article source: Pedra Silva Architects

On one of Sydney’s high-end retail streets we were invited to design a high-level state of the art dental clinic. The actual space and the brief provided by the client posed a few challenges that got us thinking. An aesthetic is something that may be mistaken as an additional almost cosmetic layer to a design, but in our projects, the aesthetic is a clear response to problem solving.
In this particular case the client requested two receptions with two entrances that could function separately but without compromising the sense of spaciousness and its relationship with people passing by. In the same space we also had a stubborn structural column that seemed to impose itself in all the attempts of trying to integrate it into the design. The solution? Answering the brief and magically making the column disappear!
