Article source: ISTUDIO Architects The aim is resilience — a community center built to be a resource for all and a refuge in times of trouble — in service to the DC Department of Parks + Recreation mission to promote health, conservation, and universal access to parks. In order to meet this intention, resilience was considered from two main angles: site influence because the facility must respond to specific site challenges and community influence because the facility should be a center that builds resiliency within the community.

Article source: v2com Nestled in the vales of the Eastern Townships, near the Vermont border, the Abercorn Chalet is the brainchild of Laurent Guez, designer and partner at Tux Creative. His aim was to create a unique living experience through architecture, embodying contrasts of harmony, open spaces and cozy areas. From the road, the house looks like a modest contemporary cottage. However it actually consists of four large interconnected modules with several offset façades, each containing ample windows that overlook an in-ground pool and a garage/workshop. “The group of structures is reminiscent of a farm, with a central courtyard and outbuildings,” says Guez.

Article source: ariasrecalde taller de arquitectura We took on this project in the understanding that there was a need to “manipulate” the building code applicable to “our” lot. This code established the construction of either a townhouse or a row house, with a back yard and a three meter set back from the street in order to create a unitary facade along the block. The existing homes adapt to these rules, the result being the repetitive planning of the same type of house.

Article source: ariasrecalde taller de arquitectura A steep slope with impressive views over the metropolitan area of the city of Granada establish the environment on which the different volumes of the Aire house are staggered, adapting to the topography, generating different terraces and levels that are used to create terraces so that each spatial level communicates directly to the outside in a continuous inside-out that blurs the limits of what is built for the benefit of the outside space, the enjoyment of the impressive views of the landscape.

Article source: Peeter Pere arhitektid The original task was to design a new sauna to accompany a farm complex and which takes into account the existing sauna. The old already remodelled smoke sauna in its archaic manner was the catalyst of the design. A separate new entity would have left the old building in a sad state. Thus began the idea of actually building on and around it, therefore packing the old and new in the same capsule. The non-sauna part between the two saunas, an atrium, connects the surrounding landscape, sky and the old buildings into an inseparable part of the sauna complex. There are many different layers to the little building. The interior entails two opposing sides: a dark sauna room with a hint of a smoke sauna, and an abruptly ample room with a fireplace – a room which takes in the surroundings and has a light, fun overtone to it.

Article source: TEC Taller EC Quatro is a set of 9 housing units that engages the domestic space from a condition of diversity of uses. Although the main determinant of the client was 9 “type” dwellings, it is proposed to approach the project under a catalog of occupancies where the basic rules are set by the “programmer” but the opportunities for use are adapted by the user who inhabits them. The starting point is to give spatial versatility to the user according to their needs and family composition, instead of projecting 9 equal and rigid houses at the programmatic level, a set of rules are proposed in which the rigid space is composed of the wet core of housing and an open structure to different appropriations of the inhabitants, which turns the project into a catalog of houses under a composition of summation of occupancies that vary thanks to the use of furniture as a delimitation resource.

Article source: Derrington Building Studio The Photographer’s Studio strikes a balance between a voluminous working space, the City of Austin’s zoning regulations, and a shared appreciation for expressive form. This project began with a simple need for a studio in the corner of the photographer’s backyard. Zoning setbacks and tree protection rules quickly eliminated the option to build a separate structure, resulting in a building addition that juxtaposes a typical Austin house with a fresh new form.

Article source: Aidlin Darling Design Roseland University Prep is a small, unique, college preparatory charter high school in the heart of Roseland, a community of extreme adversity and need within Santa Rosa. Formerly housed in a dilapidated window-less warehouse, the Charter School District received state funding and a matching grant to create a new school. As the funds to construct the school were quite modest, the design team was tasked with creating an extremely cost-effective design that met numerous requirements, as well as retaining the spirit of the school.

Article source: Waterfrom Design The Gently Flowing Walls Wind Into a Slow Andante Jinan is known as the “Spring City” for its many springs since ancient times, with a landscape of lakes and water being a nutrient of life for the city and also a source of cultural enrichment. The copywriting takes springs as a starting point to conceive the spatial pattern and hopes to interpret the fluent posture that the flowing water emerges from the stone crevices, sparkling. Meanwhile, with abundant urban landscape culture as the venation, the design of aqueous phase starts from the concept of museums, with the hope that the space created can not only display objects but also bring viewers a pure enjoyment of architectural strength and aesthetic feeling. The unusual special scale and viewing method make the intuitive experience mix with the exhibits to be interwoven into a unique cultural memory and offer more in-depth field implications.
