Loft ESN in Esslingen, Germany by Ippolito Fleitz Group

The Palmscher Park in Esslingen is a former army barracks from the late Wilhelmine era. It was transformed into a residential complex at the turn of the millennium and has become a very popular residential area thanks to its attractive hillside situation, only ten minutes walking distance from Esslingen town centre. When an agency moved out of a loft space at the short end of a two-storey block, a family with two small children sought to transform the site into their new home.An open and spacious living space with differentiated living zones and tantalising visual perspectives was created across 400 square metres.

Ölhafen Bridge in Raunheim, Germany by schneider+schumacher

September 11th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: schneider+schumacher

The new white oil terminal bridge is an elegant, curved structure. It spans the 70m wide entrance to the oil terminal harbour in Raunheim with a spiralling access ramp. This sculptural bridge design stems from Frankfurt architects schneider+schumacher.

The clients for the bridge appointed Schüßler-Plan as structural engineers. The bridge’s location is, on the one hand, influenced by the industrial character of the harbour, and on the other, by the River Main that runs parallel to it, with its attractive embankment and mature trees. The bridge will primarily be used by cyclists and pedestrians.

RIBA awards jury comment; “To convert a derelict 15th century barn into a contemporary home would be an achievement anywhere, to do so in one of the most rigorously conservative planning environments there is, is all the more remarkable.”

Textured Tower in Biscay, Spain by Coll-Barreu Arquitectos

A 32,5 meters high concrete tower for fire training.

A vertical decision. The tower at its plant intensifies the vertical folds. The folds of the concrete improve the vertical inertia, save material, make a more efficient structure. The tower is compressed also to not fill the air, as the “thin figures” of Giacometti.

Dual House in Venice, California

September 11th, 2014 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: Chibi Moku

The Dual House is a new duplex for two related families, with an emphasis on balancing shared and personal spaces. While appearing to be a single building, two structures are placed back-to-back allowing for private garden entries and a communal roof deck. The garages, bedrooms, and entry are incorporated on the lower level, with a convertible bedroom/office having direct access to the garden.  On the second floor, the directional emphasis shifts to the long alley, highlighting the stairs, views, and available light for the main living spaces along this façade.  Tucked behind this public space are the master bedroom and bath.  The suspended steel stairs are a focal point for both inside and out.

METU RESEARCH CENTER in Turkey by Emre Arolat Architects

September 11th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Emre Arolat Architects

METU – Middle East Technical University is one of the oldest, largest and internationally successful universities in Turkey that is also assertive in scientific, technological and innovative developments. The vision of being “research loaded university” is supported by the investments done to related buildings and strategic supportive programs that have increased the performances in improvements. There are 23 research and application centers in METU by 2011.The project was developed to fulfill the requirements of  the New Research Center that would combine all of these 23 research units at a centrum. The project would increase the interaction between the educational buildings and the technopark just on the other side and at the same time should behave as a social gathering place for the students and the academicians. In this sense it has an atrium like generator space, just in the middle that behaves as the gathering place and that is not climatized creating its own ecology with its semi-closed atmosphere and advanced landscape, serving for the interaction between researchers of various disciplines, instructors, students etc.
