Unboxed – 100% recycable prefab wooden house in Polignano a Mare Town, Italy by Barberio Colella ARC

October 24th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Barberio Colella ARC

Description: “Unboxed”, designed by Micaela Colella and Maurizio Barberio, is the wooden transposition of the typical characters of the Mediterranean house, as a valid alternative to masonry or frame structure buildings. The house is think to be placed in the beautiful town of Polignano a Mare, Apulia. The high standardization of the modules and their total prefabrication, allow to study various solutions easily. This goal is achieved by splitting the building in several basic structural elements designed to be mounted with all the finishes and without thermal bridges. The house is 100% recyclable. It is also completely removable – thus movable – thanks to an innovative foundation made of steel, which allows to reduce or eliminate the excavation. A low inclination roof on the top (5%) allows the installation of solar roof tiles (Tegosolar technology), capable of producing electricity and heat. The house has a clear division between the living and the sleeping area with a glazed corridor/entrance in the middle: a journey in the nature, able to re-establish the contact with the surrounding environment (flow of time) at each passage.

Article source: OSPA | ARQUITETURA E URBANISMO

This is the premise and guiding goal for the development of the new campus of UFCSPA. In an urban context still growing, Campus Igara emerges as a potential articulating element of both spatial and human relationships that surrounds it. A square, fluid and permeable as is supposed to be, in contrast to the volumetric density that the programmatic solution suggests in a first approach.

The Solar Gardens Visitors Center was created as a proposal for a large public art structure designed to harvest energy from the sun, and to collect and store rainwater for use in and around the structure. In addition, the structure and the surrounding plaza would be made from photo catalytic concrete that cleans itself, and the air.

Denim R & D in İstanbul, Turkey by Zemberek Design Office

Article source: Zemberek Design Office

The space is designed as an R & D studio within headquarter of a textile company. The design concept was built on the physical relations among the users (R & D personnel), products, accessories, and the materials.

It was observed that actions of sitting, walking, working, evaluating the products by comparisons, performed in ordinary levels and locations, are limiting the function of  R & D.

The Future of Prefabricated Wooden Homes by marc benjamin drewes ARCHITEKTUREN

October 24th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: marc benjamin drewes ARCHITEKTUREN

In our opinion the future of prefabricated wooden houses is a simple but well reasoned solid construction without any glue or synthetic elements. This leads not only to real sustainability, but creates a pleasant indoor climate and a friendly atmosphere.
The lightness of wood and the possibilities of prefabricating large-size elements qualifies wooden houses to densify an urban landscape. A city as Berlin has a huge amount of flat roofs that can carry light wooden constructions. People can live in individual houses with spectacular views in the middle of the city.

Wanderer’s Lodge in Santander, Spain by GARCIAGERMAN ARQUITECTOS

October 24th, 2014 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: GARCIAGERMAN ARQUITECTOS

Wanderer’s Lodge is a small pavilion gently placed amongst existing trees in the garden of an extraordinary property in the north of Spain. In its daily use, it overlaps functions of protection, storage, entertaining, dining, barbecues, napping, acting as a small theater, etc. The particular climatic conditions to do with rain and humidity have suggested a lightweight materiality capable of reflecting the closeness of the trees and the existing main house, making itself present through the contrast of a polished and symmetrical piece against its natural backdrop. Designed for a young family of wanderers who travel the world, the pavilion celebrates the dialectic presence of fire and water as means to anchor experience to time and place. Construction elements are prefabricated and assembled on site by two local craftsmen.
