Minima | Maxima in Astana, Kazakhstan by MARC FORNES / THEVERYMANY

October 10th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: MARC FORNES / THEVERYMANY

Why, among visitors of all ages, does it seem instinctive to engage the structure playfully? For instance, to tuck one’s body inside a pleat at the base, assuming a contorted curved form that matches the structure itself. To be inside Minima | Maxima is to be transported to a strange, future, science fiction world, removing us from ourselves and finding within a sense of naive wonder. The project is radically different than the built environments we know. The impulse is to explore, to visually wander. Transformed into a childlike state, visitors can do so without the pretense of reference or concepts, employing instead the potent investigative powers of our senses.

Own House in Poland by Grupa Metaforma

October 9th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Grupa Metaforma

The project of the house is a very specific and at the same time unique challenge for an architect. Each line sketched by the designer is a reflection of the Investors dreams. In the case of this house project, the Metaforma Group was able to cooperate with clients from a very beginning of the investment process to the finishing point that was the interior design. The comprehensive approach to the topic has created a consistent whole. The residents did not have a full vision of how the building should look like. They were relying mostly on the sensations they wanted to feel inside the house.

Santa Monica Hotels in California by Gwynne Pugh Urban Studio, Inc.

Article source: Gwynne Pugh Urban Studio, Inc.

DESIGN

Although different hotels, the two structures work together to create a strong presence on the 5th Street corner by providing tower-like elements which will offer a gateway to the city. Both structures have interior courts that provide for daylight, cross-ventilation, and general interest shops for hotel patrons. These projects have been designed to complement the fabric of the city while being graceful, fully functional hotels. With an eye toward the then-under-construction Expo Line ushering in an unprecedented number of visitors to Santa Monica, GP-US envisioned the hotels serving as a prime hospitality recipient for such travelers.

La Canaleta School in Catalonia, Spain by 2260mm arquitectura

October 9th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: 2260mm arquitectura

The school is located on square land in the perimeter of the town in an area of potential development.  The building stands alone in a isolated area, limited by an avenue, that is buried beneath the school and fields.

The building design is a comb framework facing onto the future plaza, (for school weekly access and weekend public use) and inside you will find the administration office, kitchen, dining room and gym.  The two perpendicular wings are on one and two floors respectively, where the classrooms are located for kindergarten and primary.
