The Frick Environmental Center, the first municipally-owned, Living Building Challenge-targeted project in existence, will be a world-class center for experiential environmental education. As a joint venture between the City of Pittsburgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, the new Environmental Center will serve as a gateway to Frick Park—the city’s largest public park at 644-acres—and embody the “neighborhood to nature” ideal that served as inspiration for its formation more than 80-years ago.

Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Spring, New York by MQ Architecture

May 14th, 2018 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: MQ Architecture

Magazzino Italian Art is a private initiative conceived by Nancy Olnick and Giorgio Spanu to house their collection of postwar Italian Art. The commission consisted in a full renovation of an existing 11,000 square-foot building and an additional 14,000 square feet of new construction. The existing L-shaped structure was erected in 1964 as a distribution center for dairy products and surrounded by loading docks and canopies. The new space needed a taller clearance, since some of the collection’s pieces were large, as well as highly controlled natural light.

Reenchanting the Parisian courtyard in France by METEK

May 14th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: METEK

To share the block’s heart.

Reunion of the plots of 170 and 168 rue de Crimée.

The architectural intent is, above all, social:reinventing an urban courtyard shared by all the inhabitants while individualizing each door entrance. To create circulations that encourage encounters between neighbors, which connect – in the image of the inhabitants – buildings of different origins and natures. The layout of the buildings, the fragmentation of the mass plan allows visual breakthroughs with the courtyards of neighboring plots. There is a physical continuity with the two courtyards which belong to the same landlord.
