House Brotero in Lisboa, Portugal by phdd arquitectos

June 15th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: phdd arquitectos

In a neighbourhood of small buildings this project was always developed with the intention of a careful integration of the house in the local context.

For the street the house is revealed like a small traditional volume, with roof tiles and typical sized windows with local stone, setting the relationship with the scale of the neighbourhood.

This volume is attached to another one exposed as a big wall, without any openings, where the main social areas of the house open to the garden in the back.

L-House in Linden, Australia by ASA – Alexander Symes Architect

Article source: ASA – Alexander Symes Architect

Perched on the eastern spur of Linden in the lower Blue Mountains, sat a project home partially completed in 2003. The new owners, a young couple, decided after suffering through several cold winters that it was time to renovate the house into a thermally comfortable family home.

The clients originally wanted to maintain the two existing pavilions: one for guest accommodation and the other for ancillary spaces and create a new dwelling to the east, increasing floor space to accommodate a family and capture the surrounding bushland and easterly views across the Sydney basin to the harbour and city.

gré Square House in Shizuoka, Japan by suzuki architects

June 14th, 2018 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: suzuki architects

This combined home and business sits on the skirts of Nihondaira, a hilly area just outside central Shizuoka City. The neighborhood is a mixture of large old farmhouses, tea fields, and new housing developments, with small shops nestled into the laid-back surroundings. The streets curve slightly as they climb gently toward the hills, as if they were built on top of the old paths between fields. They lead, too, to openings where Mt. Fuji suddenly comes into view. It is in just such a spot that this house is located.
