Cykelslangen (The Bicycle Snake) in Copenhagen, Denmark by DISSING+WEITLING architecture

May 18th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: DISSING+WEITLING architecture

With the change from commercial harbour activities to residences and retail, the Inner Harbour of Copenhagen has undergone a pronounced transformation. In this case, the clients brief called for a somewhat minimal bicycle ramp providing an alternative to the staircase. DISSING+WEITLING saw a tremendous potential for the new ramp to become something more than just replacing the staircase. The solution was ‘The Bicycle Snake’. The 230m elevated ramp ensures the complete separation of cyclists and pedestrians – the cyclists can pass quickly and easily through the area, while experiencing unique and exciting views and the elevated road allows pedestrians to use the entire wharf avoiding perilous situations.

High Street South in Manila, Philippines by CAZA Architects

May 18th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: CAZA Architects

Activating the cultural center of Manila’s Bonifacio Global City, CAZA’s design for the High Street South project fuses the neighborhood, district, and urban scales of the master plan around a spine that functions as a network for public spaces. Borrowing from the geological notion of stratification, CAZA created multiple layers of public space that weave together circulation, culture, recreation and event spaces through a collection of hybridized mixed-use towers. Tower typologies are informed by striated levels that include public spaces of mobility and retail at the ground level; semi-private spaces for recreation and amenities; and private residential spaces with urban villas, terraced apartments, and loft units. With the facades’ playfully idiosyncratic grid patterns that correspond to these layers of tower typology, CAZA has designed a family of unique towers that share a unifying visual language and create a gracefully moving texture against the Manila skyline.

Article source: mar.s architects

From the original “boat” interior we only kept wooden ceiling and beams and gave the floors new coat of paint. The oak furniture wooden elements stand out thanks to monochrome interior, including the gemstone of the restaurant – Dry Ager – where the meat matures. The only colour elements that lit up the whole area are gold insides of the pendant lamps. The front wall is decorated with original graphic by Jakub Šejvl that refers to the origins of steaks.

The main idea of the project

Creative office with the Fluxus spirit. Agency’s motto – creativity – it was necessary to make more positive signal to this activity spaces. We constructed employees space, where everything, starting with the labor law and ending with paintings on the walls respective personalities, inspired to create, surprise, generate ideas, and even relax. We did not seek to create a standard office, wanted to do everything with the ambition, unconventional. The interior is dominated by natural unpainted galvanized metal, openwork partitions, graphically composes into the interior of the building along with old bricks and drawings on the walls. To arouse curiosity, surprise means one out of the office interior design concepts.

AR Vinhos in Aveiro, Portugal by Paulo Martins, Arqto

May 17th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Paulo Martins, Arqto

Based on minimalistic and pure lines, this wine house project, located in Aveiro, is characterised by a plane that is at the center of the design, which flows around the entire space.

Following a gardened furniture at the entrance of the space (which is an allusion to the vineyards), the focal point becomes the flowing plane, which guides the eye through the space, passing by the exhibited wine bottles, and ending at the main counter desk.

The wine house is divided in two floors: the top floor with a more private space, where wine tasting and workshops can be conducted, and the ground floor dedicated to the comercial activity of the shop.

VILA ROMANA RESIDENCE in São Paulo, Brazil by MMBB Arquitetos

May 17th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: MMBB Arquitetos

The design of the Vila Romana Residence is derived from the twin imperatives of topography and usage.

It is situated on a corner plot with views of the town’s principal valley, with a drop of 10 meters from one side of the plot to the other.

The first question to be tackled was that of creating an artificial terrain that would allow for easy transit around the external areas and their use for day-to-day activities. The landscaping was determined by the creation of these areas.
