Cleopatra Hotel Apartments in Ayia Napa, Cyprus by HappyANTS Interior Architecture and Design

March 21st, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: HappyANTS Interior Architecture and Design

A low budget renovation for a hotel apartment complex in Ayia Napa. The building was originally build as apartments to be sold to tourists or locals as holiday or weekend homes. Our task was to turn them into a hotel apartment block to be used as long or short term rental apartments. We used light materials and happy vivid colors along with the neutral colors for the big surfaces. All of these come in contrast with the blue Cypriot sky and the bright Cypriot sun! We renovated all of the areas of the hotel either by tearing down unnecessary walls and building new ones where needed as well as changed most of the furniture in the public spaces. All bedrooms where renovated in contemporary style

Restless Response: Emergency Medical Station 50 at Queens Hospital in New York City by Dean/Wolf Architects

March 19th, 2017 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: v2com

The Queens Hospital EMS station was commissioned by the design excellence initiative process implemented by the New York City Department of Design and Construction, for the Fire Department of New York City.

Kathryn Dean, Principal for Dean/Wolf Architects explains the design by staying “I am interested in the capacity for architecture to convey identity and meaning through emotional resonance. I believe this happens through the impact of materials and form coming together in a particular place… In order to understand the building, it is important to understand two departure points: First, the building was commissioned shortly after 9/11. Second, when I work, I often build intuitive paper models to investigate ideas. When I received the commission, I started making these models. After several more rational schemes, the double horizontal bars emerged. It took me a bit of thought to realize why this felt right. They were my own deep emotional response to the fallen towers.”

Kleiburg is one of the biggest apartment buildings in the Netherlands: a bend slab with 500 apartments, 400 meter long, 10 + 1 stories high.

Kleiburg is located in the Bijlmermeer, a CIAM inspired residential expansion of Amsterdam designed in the sixties by Siegfried Nassuth of the city planning department. De Bijlmer was intended as a green, light and spacious alternative for the -at that time- disintegrating inner city.

Article source: studio mk27

The site of the Osler House lies at the edge of Brasilia’s pilot plan, at the tip of one of Paranoá Lake estuaries.   The house is a poetic commentary on modern architecture, above all on Brazilian modernism, starting from a contemporary re-reading of the building materials and techniques.

Cowiche Canyon Kitchen and Ice Bar in Yakima, Washington by Graham Baba Architects

March 18th, 2017 by Sanjay Gangal

Article source: Graham Baba Architects

The first half of the 20th-century was a time of growth and dignity for downtown Yakima. Presidents Roosevelt and Taft visited the emerging agricultural center where the main street featured fountains, grand theaters, and stately, multi-story brick-and-masonry buildings. By mid-century, however, most of these structures had been demolished to make way for parking lots as businesses struggled to keep their downtown relevant and residents fled to the suburbs.
