Article source: Nommo Arquitetos

The construction site is a shared area of three houses, belonging to the same family, in a gated community located in the north of Florianópolis island. On that same space there was an old covered yet open-sided barbecue place. The family grew and so the need for a more comfortable lounge area was required.

Apartamento Telheiras in Lisbon, Portugal by Miguel Marcelino

September 13th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: Miguel Marcelino

This apartment, built in the 80s, has problems that are typical of the architectural debilities of most of the portuguese housing buildings of the second half of the XX century: low ceilings throughout the house, subdivided spaces, long narrow kitchens, winding corridors and numerous protrusions of pillars and beams that reveal an unresolved conflict between structure and architecture.

The new kindergarten building  is subordinated to the green exterior space and skillfully designed in a form of a continuous spatial loop which surrounds the entire playground. Uniform concept of the playground that starts with an extensive central atrium on the south of the plot and continues under the tract on the 1st floor to the north part of the building site, assures the feeling of safety and connectivity of the kindergarten’s departments.

Class Café Buriram in Thailand by SAR (Sake Architects)

September 13th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: SAR (Sake Architects)

In the past couple of years, Buriram has seen the birth of many new architectural structures. Located on the main highway that leads to the city center, Class Cafe occupies the once old and unused building and is now turning into a new destination of this northeastern city’s inhabitants. As the first branch outside of Nakhon Ratchasima, the neighboring province where the coffee house brand is originated, the project’s owner’ brief includes the wish to have the old-looking structure wrapped with the new building shell with the current architectural trends being the references. Looking through the structure’s physical conditions into the actual demands of both the project’s users and owner, the architect proposes the idea that is later materialized into the design of the building.

Binet Business Centre in Paris, France by AZC Atelier Zündel Cristea

September 13th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: AZC Atelier Zündel Cristea

The Porte de Montmartre neighborhood is located in the northwest part of the 18th arrondissement of Paris, bordering the town of Saint-Ouen. It comprises one of the priority sites in the extensive Urban Renewal project undertaken by the city of Paris in its effort to increase engagement and set into motion a real process of change. Our project met the programmatic requirements calling for a complex of 59 premises for businesses, with communal areas, a multipurpose hall, a conference room, cafeteria, and 33 parking spots underground. Our goal is to build a sustainable structure for businesses, the whole integrating a specific quality of life, expressed through a generosity of openings, terraces, workspaces, quality landscape planning, views, multiple orientations . . . in short, architecture that transforms urban and programmatic constraints into veritable assets. It is a terraced structure that splits and turns at a right angle, remaining parallel to a second road. The L-shaped building has large bay windows looking out from all sides throughout, while a large hall traverses and opens up the ground floor. The entrance halls meet in front of the elevators, preserving an east-west transparency at all levels of the building. The architecture of our building is directly inspired by the principle of a “daylight factory”. This North American architectural tendency seeks to bring the maximum amount of natural light into the workspaces. The workshop and office buildings are thus designed with open-space floors, lit internally through facades made largely of glass, and topped by terraced roofing.

Gokturk 118 in Eyup Istanbul by CM Mimarlik

September 12th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: CM Mimarlik

This Project was designed as two separated blocks located on adjacent plots with different regulations, merging to a corner. The two blocks with different heights 12.5 m and 15.50 m, has been unified regarding their facade clearances. Within the evolving facade of the Çamlık Street in the last 10 year, these blocks were injected with a cynic eccentricity to the existing pattern. The form emerges from the meeting of the two separately perceived prisms. The entrance of the blocks is from the Sedef Street perpendicular to the Çamlık Street and both blocks are connected from this entrance.

HOUSE B in Zagreb, Croatia by SODAarhitekti

September 12th, 2017 by Sumit Singhal

Article source: SODAarhitekti

Parcela The plot for the construction of a family house is situated on the slopes of Medvednica, in the northwestern part of the city. The terrain is an ideal south-facing slope. The house is located in the longitudinal west-east direction, in order to maximize the benefits od of the south orientation and to allow a view of the city from the entire house. It is designed with a simple gesture of pulling the upper floor volume in a relation to the ground floor volume. This formed two valuable outer spaces as a functional extension of interior of the house – the entrance to the parking lots, which covers the console to the west, and a terrace with a roof garden for parents in the east. Cantelevered space can be used as a covered dining terrace. The ground floor has a living room, dining room and kitchen, the upper floor consists of sleeping spaces, and the basement is the utilitarian floor. The organization of the house is done around the centrally placed two-storey living room, which is vertically connected with the upper floor gallery, with dining area and the kitchen on the same level and with the exterior through the large glass walls. Gallery serves as a horizontal connection between parental bedroom and children’s rooms and as a playroom. Large windows oriented to the south allow the decline of winter sun rays deep into the house and make passive heating possible. Duplex living room accumulates heat and distributes it to other areas of the house. In the summer, the house is protected from the sun with a pergola and movable blinds.
