The restaurant is in the former entrance area of the AMJV (the Dutch equivalent of the YMCA). Gearwheel factory in Amsterdam, The Netherlands by Ronald Janssen Architecten

Sunday, September 27th, 2015

Article source: Ronald Janssen Architecten

The mere fact that the gearwheel factory is still there, right in the old centre of Amsterdam, makes the building special. This warehouse from the early 20th century, with its sawtooth roof and brick walls overgrown with ivy, is like a green oasis in the city. The building has now been transformed by architect Ronald Janssen in cooperation with Donald Osborne Architect into twelve residences, in commission from real estate developer Buro Amsterdam.

Botel in Amsterdam, Netherlands by MMX architecten + Jord den Hollander

Tuesday, September 8th, 2015

Article source: MMX architecten

“How can you improve the look of the hotelboat, in order to make it fit in with the dynamics and creativity of the NDSM wharf, in the north of Amsterdam?”

This was the question that Botel-owner Sandra Chedi put to MMX-architecten (Arjan van Ruyven & Michiel van Pelt) in 2011. Together with filmmaker and architect Jord den Hollander they developed a bold plan. Five 6.5 -meter-high hotelrooms in the shape of huge toy letters make up the silhouette B O T E L on top of the ship. The white hotel boat has been given a cheerful crown, referring to the chimneys of the ocean liners that used to come off the now derelict NDSM slipways.

Hoekenrodeplein in Amsterdam, Netherlands by KARRES+BRANDS

Saturday, May 30th, 2015

Article source: KARRES+BRANDS

Hoekenrodeplein forms the link between the Amsterdam Port shopping centre and the Arena Boulevard. With the redevelopment of the New Amsterdam Building, the square has been developed as one of the final phases of the Zuidoost Centre Area. The existing, U-shaped building th at wraps around the square was expanded on the ground and first floors, and now accommodates public functions, such as a hotel and hospitality facilities. This redevelopment, along with the desire of the municipality to also allow events to take place on the square, made it necessary to revise the earlier design by karres+brands from 2006.

Zens showroom in Amsterdam, Netherlands by SchilderScholte architects

Sunday, March 8th, 2015

Article source: SchilderScholte architects

The first European store of the design brand Zens Lifestyle is situated on one of Amsterdam’s oldest canals and opened its doors November 2014. In this showroom of 32 square meters Zens presents its minimalist dishes and glassware, such as bowls, carafes, mugs as well as coffee and tea sets. SchilderScholte architects have created this delicate shrine-like interior to reflect the quality and design within the collection of this Asian brand. The interior is a synergy of local design methodology with oriental accents. From the outset of the project the architects looked at the differences in culture and used them as a design premise.
