This project brings together three cultural institutions into one building: FRAC (the Aquitaine Regional Fund for Contemporary Art), ECLA (the Cultural Agency for Writing, Music, Film & Broadcasting), and OARA (the Artistic Office of the Aquitaine Region for performing arts). Together, they are transformed into a single institution: the Maison de l’Économie Créative et de la Culture en Aquitaine – the MÉCA. We propose a building integrated with the waterfront promenade of Bordeaux to allow public life to flow through the MÉCA.

Building the head offices of a social housing operator is a unique and symbolic act. For the public and the operator’s various partners, the building needs to embody and reflect the values of Aquitanis. It needs to convey a gentle form of symbolism.

ROTTERDAM – 14 June 2013 – OMA’s design for a new bridge across the river Garonne in Bordeaux has been selected as one of two final competing projects by the city authorities. Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

Article source: Nicolas Laisné Architecte Urbaniste

This project, located in the new Berge du Lac area in Bordeaux, includes four collective buildings and ten individual houses which form a block.

The dark shades and unbalanced silhouettes of the three tallest structures echo the tramway. On the other side, the individual houses and a building, covered in wood, are erected along the side of a linear park. Each of these architectural choices responds to the particular circumstances of these buildings.

Îlot Saint-Jean in Bordeaux, France by Leibar-Seigneurin

Sunday, September 1st, 2013

Article source: Leibar-Seigneurin

In scale with the neighbourhood, our proposal fits in with a general policy of creating closed blocks with buildings running continuously alongside the roads and featuring huge private central areas. The guidelines and recommendations thus fixed are clearly consistent with the idea of creating streets and lead to the conception of buildings which fit in with this project. This kind of urban development makes it possible to phase out the building work and the demolition work, both characteristic of this sort of project, in a coherent fashion.
