Seven Coffee in Changzhou, China by dongqi Architects

Sunday, September 17th, 2017

Article source: dongqi Architects

Dongqi Architects transformed and enlarged an old café into a new space with coffee, craft beer、food and bakery in the downtown of Changzhou.

The interior space is an overall “L” shape space. Coffee, craft beer and bakery zones take places separately in the three corners of the “L”. Coffee and craft beer zone have white ceilings and floors, and the bakery zone is a space with black covered all surfaces. The black and white spaces is divided by the curvy ceiling edge and steel wire. The heights of the ceilings on the two sides are different which not only differentiate the spaces according to their functions, but also naturally merge the old space and the new space together into an indivisible whole.

The ongoing events and visitors that inhabit this urban oasis, together with the designed spatial elements, bring a transformative and invigorating life to a neighborhood in the making. As Shanghai expands, the Hongqiao District has become its new vibrant neighborhood because of the concentration of Hongqiao Railway and Subway Station, Hongqiao Airport, the new Convention Center and the CBD. The developer Shui On Land, the mastermind behind the Xintiandi development introduced the HUB mixed-use development in the heart of this new district. The highlight of this complex is the Performance and Exhibition Center that is envisioned as the “hot spot” of culture and arts of the new neighborhood.

Thursday, September 14th, 2017

Article source: YANG & ASSOCIATES GROUP

Fuzhou, a historical and cultural city along the southeast coast of China, is also known as “Hometown of Overseas Chinese”, owning the reputation of pivotal gateway on “the silk road via the sea”. The old generations travel overseas to fight for their lives. YANG captured the suitcase elements representing journey and leveraged the image on the reception design. Together with the hanging backdrop Fuzhou Painting, they both secretly reveal the homesickness sentiment of that time. Designers drew inspiration from the influential Fuzhou Shipyard Culture during Qing Dynasty. With “Sails” being the design concept, they created a magnificent wall-hung structure “Sailing” using 366 pieces of hand carved cards. The structure, which is 8.5m in height and 8.2 in width, powerfully represent Fuzhou people’s unity, determination and courage. The card design took the shape of the Fuzhou traditional building tiles, and blends well with the local culture and inherits the local historic feature to keep the memories fresh.

Daodao coffee in Chengdu, China by HAD Architects& EPOS

Friday, September 8th, 2017

Article source: HAD Architects& EPOS

Daodao Coffee locates in the center of Intime City Commercial District in Chengdu. The total area of this two-floor cafe is around 65 square meters. And the designers tried to make it an ideal space to relax.

In our opinions, design should start with exact questions, and a good design is one of the answers. Our question about this project is how to make different customers with diverse needs find their place in this 56-square-meter area with a height of 5.6 meters and a non-natural-light second floor. We tried to solve this problem from the changeability of small spaces and the integration of material and light.

Ink House in Guangdong Province, China by AD ARCHITECTURE

Tuesday, September 5th, 2017

Article source: AD ARCHITECTURE

Home is a carrier of our lives and personality, recording the inner minds and feelings. Ink House is a residence of a calligrapher, implying the cultural complex of Chinese calligraphy and adhering to the spiritual realm of nourishing heart by art.

Designers create the space combined with human behavior model, paying special attention to the owner’s living habits and hobbies. The overall layout has a calm and concise tone which is set by ink painting with proper depth of color; the necessary decoration of clear and simple lines matches light and rounded interior design, achieving “extremes meet” effect of hardness and softness. When implemented in the specific design of details, the ink atmosphere is created through items as art painting, light gray natural stone floor, ink-dot-like natural stone wall and customized ink carpet, adding an artistic and human feelings to the rational space form. All in all, the overall design is bold and hard, while the details are fine and soft, showing the pure state of mind.

Jingshan Boutique Hotel in Hangzhou, China by Continuation Studio

Tuesday, September 5th, 2017

Article source: Continuation Studio

This is a project that started from engaging with the site. The site is located up on a mountain ridge, next to a reservoir’s dam. There was previously a two-story “San-Ho-Yuan” style dormitory block built back in the 1980s, with a courtyard surrounded by the concave form of the block. There stands an ancient pine in the centre serves as the heart of the courtyard, with its dense canopy covering half of the courtyard and part of the building. Meanwhile, the historical context of the site, to the north of the Jing-Shan Mountain that once gestated the Zen tea ceremony, has prepared it with a deep historical and cultural ambiance. As a result, to preserve the courtyard structure as well as the ancient pine, in order to generate its potential spatial spirit, has been established as our design proposition.
