UA Cine Times Cinema in Hong Kong, China by One Plus Partnership Limited

Thursday, December 4th, 2014

Article source: One Plus Partnership Limited

The 21st century opens a gateway to the new era of modern technologies and innovations. With the widespread of 3D and even 4D high definition movies available on global market, the old method of filming has gone scarce, if not extinct. When thinking of the theme for this cinema, the designers want to trace back to the roots when film making began. Back in the 19th century, photographers captured continual images and stored them on a single compact reel of film. This ancient object – roll films, was being symbolized all over the cinema, reminding the audience the long forgotten history behind the scene.

Nanshan Cultural Centre in Shenzhen, China by ZOBOKI-DEMETER and Associates Architects

Thursday, November 20th, 2014

Article source: ZOBOKI-DEMETER and Associates Architects

A new performing arts facility inaugurated recently in Shenzhen, China, designed by architects Gabor Zoboki and Nora Demeter of ZOBOKI-DEMETER Architects has joined the ranks of the most unique cultural venues in China. The building houses a multi-functional concert hall holding 1400 seats, a children’s theatre of 350 seats, extensive public spaces, all embodied in a large complex of cultural and sports facilities in the heart of Nanshan District. The project is the result of a design process of several years, during which time the architects paid special attention to the local needs as defined by the Client, the Mayor of the District who wished to ensure that the building was planned and built from the perspective of the local community. Despite the general practice in large Asian metropolises, the concert hall works without amplification, promising to offer a new concert venue with world-class acoustics within its wooden-clad hall. Adjacent to the large concert hall a smaller theatre has been created, envisaged as a venue for smaller productions, most notably offering a facility for children, one of the most significant members of the growing cultural communities emerging in China. The complex is linked to a larger sports facility, hosting an array of athletic and sports facilities for the residents and students of Nanshan.

SND fashion store in Chongqing, China by 3GATTI

Thursday, November 20th, 2014

Article source: 3GATTI

When I started this retail project there was a simple and appealing idea of hanging everything from the ceiling – thus moving out of the way the furniture and items to be sold so that all the floor space could be free for customers to circulate.  So using a software that simulates the physics of real materials, we imagined an elastic ceiling that was pulled down by the weight of these various objects.  The next step was to think about the technical equipment necessary for the store such as lighting, speakers, sprinklers, cameras, AC and ventilation so it was natural to think of this ceiling as a permeable surface.  This was the origin of the ethereal white ceiling;  an ephemeral support for ephemeral objects.

Harvested from plantations that procure income to millions of people, coconut wood is a sustainable product by excellence. The cycle of coconut production, felling/processing and re-plantation, guaranties a sound renewable supply that doesn’t impact the environment. After being used all their life coconuts, the trees become senile around 60 years old. They can then be cut and used for construction, furniture and decoration, which will constitute a windfall profit for the farmer and an excellent material for sustainable Architecture.
