Maison en bois sur les crêtes du Jura in Guyans-Vennes, France by Cambiums Architecte

Thursday, September 8th, 2016

Article source: Cambiums Architecte

The structure incorporates motifs from the vernacular architecture of this part of the Jura. A simple rectangular volume covered by a pitched roof is set perpendicular to the contours of the terrain and the prevailing wind. Exploiting the site’s topography and history, the basement is built into the hollow of a small disused quarry. This buried level houses utility rooms and garages accessed via a gentle ramp from the road to the north.

Résidence Planchette in Paris, France by AZC Architectes

Wednesday, August 31st, 2016

Article source: AZC Architectes

An urban health center, for the autonomy and involvement of people with disabilities in the city of Paris.

This project provides sheltered housing for frail, elderly residents with a variety of disabilities. The building comprises individual studio apartments, communal areas and medical consultation rooms for residents and out-patients.

To understand the project one must understand the history of the site at 232 Rue de Charenton in south-eastern Paris, along the side of which runs a passage that can be found on city plans as far back as 1789, at which time it led to cultivated fields. Fraught with real-estate related tension due to the complex planning laws in Paris and the Bercy neighbourhood, the project took seven years to see the light of day.

Friday, August 26th, 2016

Article source: Peripheriques Architectes

Being implanted up to the plot boudaries and limited on a first floor level, we were able to clear and transform the central part into a large, airy and protected yard. The constructions on stilts form wide covered playgrounds forming real exterior volumes. The student residence is taking place above, expressed in a high leveled volume as to create a distinct identity.

MÉNAGE À TROIS in Paris, France by Tomas Ghisellini Architetti

The new (rediscovered) wings of the Hôtel de Galliffet

Mirror reflection: strategy of lightness

The new architectural wings of the Hôtel de Galliffet will be enigmatic and surprising appearances.

Logics of composition, materials and formal repertoire push the architectural bodies towards an expressive vocabulary for which the terms of lightness and permeability prevail.

The strategy of inclusion aims to give the new buildings a kind of perceptive dematerialization; this way proceeding the partial clogging of the courts will assume a character of agreement and co-operation rather than imposition.

Pompidou Metz restaurant extension in France by studiolada architectes

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2016

Article source: studiolada architectes

Finished in 2010, the Pompidou Metz center imagined by Shigeru Ban quickly became an architectural icon not only for the city of Metz, but also for the region and even the country. Given the important number of visitors to the Museum and the restaurant, the need for more inside eating space on the terrace soon became apparent. However, the idea of intervening on an existing building does not come without important implications regarding architectural integrity ― the intervention will indeed modify the façaces and volumes of the existing structure.

Entrepot Macdonald in Paris, France by Kengo Kuma and Associates

Saturday, July 30th, 2016

Article source: Kengo Kuma and Associates

Macdonald had been a gigantic distribution center since the 1970s, located at Macdonald Street in Paris. OMA was the master planner of the project and their proposal was rather distinctive. They preserved the old two-storied building (which extends as long as 500m), and asked 5 other architects to work on newly added programs. We were responsible for the western part of the building, and designed facilities for a junior and senior high schools, and local sports center.

Boulogne B4A in France by Brenac & Gonzalez

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Article source: Brenac & Gonzalez

Among the buildings composing macro-lot B4, B4A takes on an iconic image, the star shape of which owes everything to its location.

Standing at the tip of an acute angle at the intersection of rue Marcel Bontemps and Cours Emile Zola, its volumes focus all of its 95 accommodations around 3 vertical openings. To develop maximum linearity of the façade, the building is hollowed out and turns its façades to the best exposures. This striving for light engenders sculptural shapes where the recessed façade and alignment with the street express a continual organic movement. The wide balconies that ring the building on every floor underscore each floor with a line, like so many piled up layers. These platters rise in stacks to compose a graphic system of undulating lines that amplify its volumes. On a scale with Cours Emile Zola, it looks like an event in the city, also reflecting quality use of the outside spaces for each apartment. The building’s exterior skin is composed of fine float-finished plaster. In contrast the façades of the access balconies are clad in wooden panels, thus putting an accent on the domestic nature of their use.

Article source: AREP

Designed by AREP and SNCF’s Architecture Division, the new multimodal station is located in NortheastParis –in the 19th arrondissement precisely– on RER line E, between Pantin and Magenta stations. It breaks the isolation of this district, which is undergoing extensive overhaul, links the east suburbs of the Paris Metropolitan Region to the city centre, and ensures connections with tramline T3. The station came into service in December 2015, after five years of works, and is expected to handle 85,000 passengers daily by 2023.
