It doesn’t place at all yet, so I can imagine many things.

When I saw the landscape, I couldn’t say anything. It was amazing. I felt like part of landscape…. I thought that the place would create grate harmony with architecture.

KPOP Curve in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by Moon Hoon

Sunday, June 15th, 2014

Article source: Moon Hoon

Baekhyeon-dong is divided in almost equal parts by its main café street. The buildings in the surrounding areas are similarly subdivided by their function; the lower and ground levels are commercial, and the first and second levels are typically residential. Amidst this sea of homogeneity, these structures engage in a quiet struggle for distinction, through the variation of form and materials, Of these, the building at street address number 582 is a music agency owned by an IT company. Sitting at a fortuitous corner, it serves as a rare contrast to the numerous other constructions in Baekhyeon-dong that fail to make the most of their locations.

Vi-Sang House in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by Moon-Hoon

Tuesday, April 16th, 2013

Article source: Moon-Hoon

These are the questions that Korean architect Hoon Moon typically throws out: ‘Why so serious? Why not laugh more?’ Moon-Hoon’s works are home to a wide array of faces. Panorama House appears to be an accordion, and Rock It Suda looks like spermatozoa. He shows a mysterious spacecraft (ongdalsam) and a Gothic castle (Sangsang Museum). Some may burst out laughing at the Darth Vader image overlying Play House.

The Curving House in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by JOHO Architecture

Thursday, February 14th, 2013

There is no home for parking

I remember that it was a winter day after snowing when I first visited the site. It was a rare residential lot with an open view to the south at the dead end of a small path beneath Mt. Gwanggyo. What was unique about this lot was that it was very hard to turn the car to come out of the path after more than 2 cars parked, because it was a small path only 4 m in width.  Ironically, the fundamental challenge was not only solving the parking problem but also creating a space for both parking and gardening to coexist.

S-Mahal in Gyeonggi-do, Korea by Moon Hoon (designed using AutoCAD and SketchUp)

Sunday, June 24th, 2012

Article source: Moon Hoon

When I was a high school student, I had a friend of slight build who always used to carry the Book of Changes with him and was interested in Korean traditional classical music. He was faithful in his religious life, at the same time full of curiosity about the secular world and always paced around restlessly. One day after 20 years, he called me out of the blue. He had in the meantime become a veterinarian and wished to move to India a few years later to lead his own life. After getting together with him for a chat over a drink a couple of times he asked me to design a house where he, his wife and her parents would live together. He wanted me to build an inner court and madang where he could raise animals, as well as a prayer room.

Tuesday, March 20th, 2012

Article source: Moon Hoon

A young couple with a beautiful daughter visited my office one day.
They wanted a unique house. Something that they have not seen…
We talked about a house that is made of large steps that keeps on rising.
We also explored spirals. All these talks stopped suddenly when we realized that the client had a tight budget.
