Dharampura Haveli in Old Delhi, India by Spaces Architecs@ka

Friday, July 29th, 2016

Article source: Spaces Architecs@ka

SHAHJANABAD, symbolic heart of Metropolitan Delhi:

A city, with the colossal Red Fort and it’s 14 gates. The emperor Shahjahan built Shahjahanabad, the old city of Delhi in 1648 AD with the concepts of medieval city layout. This old city was an enclosed fortified city with rubble wall, bastions and gates at regular intervals. Fortified neighborhood with arterial lanes, built fabrics on both sides and neighborhoods and mohallas are the main features of Delhi. The buildings in the old city are distinct in spatial planning, architecture, decorative elements and climate responsive features.

ASTHETIC CURTAILMENT:

The lane had all the suspended electrical, data and phone cables overhanging from the poles down to the street. The dilapidated elements, the fragile structure and open service connections were major constraints on the site. Multiple cracks on the columns as well as the walls and large patches of dampness made the heritage look like an ordinary run down building. Decorative plaster work was hidden under the multiple coats of lime wash.

Pavilion in Mumbai, India by Abraham John Architects

Sunday, July 24th, 2016

Article source: Abraham John Architects

The Pavilion was built on an existing underground water tank that dictated the foot print of the structure. Glass became the primary material for construction as the Pavilion was sited amidst lush tropical greenery. Glass not only formed the walls but also the roof in the form of a strategically placed skylight opening up to the view of a large jackfruit tree above blurring the boundaries between the inside and the outside.

Temple in Stone and Light in Barmer, India by spacematters

Tuesday, June 7th, 2016

Article source: spacematters

India has a glorious history of temple architecture. The desert state of Rajasthan, where the temple is located, has an equally diverse and refined heritage of buildings set in an unforgiving climatic zone. Given this legacy, to design a contemporary Hindu temple set in the sand dunes of Rajasthan has been an enormous challenge.
