It is a nursery school that was constructed in the new land readjustment area.In the site, there is “Satoyama”, a special type of natural environment that is influenced by human beings, which has the affluent nature that is uncommon in Tokyo. By readjustment of the land, the affluent nature as well as original view and experience of the Satoyama where people were connected have been lost.

K8 in Kyoto, Japan by Florian Busch Architects

Sunday, January 31st, 2016

Article source: Florian Busch Architects

Until some time ago, there were, we are told, 12 bars spread over three 2-storey houses on this 50 m2 plot on Kiyamachidori, adjacent to one of Kyoto’s most intricate network of night alleys, Pontocho, where a vibrant mixture of bars, brothels, inns, dwellings, shops have for centuries created an urban atmosphere of essential Kyoto nightlife. With an unobtrusive high-end restaurant next to a (visually less subtle) cheap yakitori, with a hidden gem of a ryokan at the end of the narrowest of side-alleys across an enigmatic place commanding courage to enter, any walk here leads to eventual surprises.

Floating house in Ogasa, JAPAN by Shuhei Goto Architects

Sunday, January 24th, 2016

Article source: Shuhei Goto Architects

A concept of this house is a “new openness” in densely built-up residential areas. The site is surrounded by the houses of neighbors, so the main theme of design is to form “a space excellent in privacy” and “an open space with brightness”.A 360 degree opening has been realized by using a steel frame between the wooden first and second floor. A living room is surrounded by the sky on every side, and a resident doesn’t have to care about neighbors. This house can bring him/her a bright and healthful life.

This small house was planned a long site from north to south. Client are young couple and children. Their request are “bright indoor” and “privacy protection from west and south street”. In order to put a light to the back of the house from various parts, it had a roof and wall to the uneven shape. As a result, it became a characteristic shape, such as the four buildings.

Slice of the City in Hyogo, Japan by ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Friday, January 22nd, 2016

Article source: ALPHAVILLE Architects Co.Ltd

Nishinomiya is a city located between Osaka and Kobe. The site is situated in a residential neighborhood with typical block layout. According to the local construction policy, there needs to be a fifty-centimeter setback from the site boundary, which allows a one-meter narrow gap between the houses. Normally, each household will have the windows facing the public roads with the curtains shut to keep its privacy. Therefore, openings as such are not providing the occupants with much light, ventilation or views.
