end…Link Beauty Salon in Osaka, Japan by Yasunari Tsukada Design

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Article source: Yasunari Tsukada Design

The name of this beauty salon was inspired by the owner’s passionate desire to turn it into a destination for “the last word in beauty”. Although the design was first completed about five years ago, the previous premises soon grew to feel a little cramped due to the rapidly expanding size of the team, which prompted the owner to move to a new and larger location.

This building is a weekend residence for a husband and a wife who loves to go climbing. It stands on east facing slope inside a national park, where grand nature can be viewed in all directions. I designed this building by a concept to divide required indoor spaces from the collection of perpendicularly crossing independent walls.

Hostel in kyonan, Japan by Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Article source: Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects

This private training center has 2 capsule-hotel and 3 tatami-style buildings. They are positioned with various angles of axis and all the rooms have a view of the Tokyo Bay, each one becoming a space like a ship’s cabin. The client requested guest units that had the possibility of future relocation or addition. While clearing these requirements and in order to ensure the necessary dimension for the bedroom spaces with economy, we utilized a wooden structural frame on a standard freight-truck of adequate dimensions.

Article source: TORAFU ARCHITECTS

For Australian skin care brand Aesop, we planned the interior and exterior of the new store on Meiji Street in Shibuya. The store is located on the first floor of a three-storey building situated between two taller buildings; the space is long and slender – 2.6m in width, 7.8m in depth and 3.9m in maximum height. We aimed to work with these proportions to provide a welcoming and intimate space for communication with customers.

Nakagawa Office Extension in Nara city, Japan by Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects

Friday, May 10th, 2013

Article source: Yasutaka Yoshimura Architects

This project is for an addition to the former premises of a company that we had built a new building for 2 years ago. With almost no changes to the original, the addition is structurally separated, with the washroom, kitchen, entrance and stairs and main circulation of the building now provided by the addition. In order to preserve the amount of parking and stay within the building footprint limitation, the building has a shallow plan of 2x20m allowing for the conversion to be completed within the allowable budget and time frame. This is architecture of the ‘facade’.

T-Nursery in Dazaifu, Fukuoka, Japan by Uchida Architect Design Office

One room (9m span) childcare room

The nursery school built in Dazaifu, a city located near Fukuoka city, had to be extended for two classes in order to increase the accommodation of children. Considering the nationwide decline of birthrates, the number of accommodating children may decrease in the near future. I decided to constitute this building as one room space (9m span) which does not have a pillar inside of building, which becomes very useful for conversions to various uses (playroom etc.).

A residence standing on a narrow corner lot in the southern part of Osaka. The client wished for a music room for his wife, who teaches gospel music, and a place where many friends could gather.  Due to strict regulations because of the narrow width of the road, the site area was limited to 47 m2 but we tried to adjust the form as much as possible in configuring the interior.

House in Yoro, Gifu, Japan by Airhouse Design Office

Wednesday, May 1st, 2013

Article source: Airhouse Design Office

One of our client’s major requirements was for a living space where the presence of the family would always be felt. In response, we devised a single-roomed layout without columns that took advantage of the distinctive features of the existing warehouse. A large kitchen was installed to cater to the needs of the food-loving husband-and-wife couple. We then conceived the entire living space by taking the kitchen as a focal point, with a mix of various other activities and functions unfolding around it.
