“Kyoku” – Bridge House in Japan by ArchiBlur Lab

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016

Article source: ArchiBlur Lab

Weight can be felt, but does feeling have weight? The strength of thought in tugging out the tension at the threshold between matter and imagination, for creators, is to return to the nature of architecture and practice its uniquely creative energy.

This creator begins by developing three concepts relating to weight to describe and develop the materiality and spatial characteristics they present. These three starting points act between nature and artificiality, and provide feeling with different layers of weight sense.

OA Kindergarten in Saitama, Japan by HIBINOSEKKEI + Youji no Shiro

Friday, July 1st, 2016

Article source: HIBINOSEKKEI + Youji no Shiro

As building of kindergarten that welcomes 50th anniversary has not been earthquake resistant sufficiently, an urgent measure was required.

We decided that our main theme is to tell the children “fossil fuel and to use what they can use carefully” from two viewpoints of urgency caused as a result of lack of the earthquake resistance and educational element of the kindergarten, and not by using an approach where a new building is constructed usually but by constructing using a marine container, reinforcing the earthquake resistance by using the existing structure and renovating, we realized a construction in short period, suggested to a sustainable society, reduced large volume of carbon dioxide as well as created an ecological and educational environment for the children.

Forrest Hammock Gallery in Fukuoka, Japan by Hirokazu Suemitsu + Yoko Suemitsu / SUEP

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016

Article source: Hirokazu Suemitsu + Yoko Suemitsu / SUEP

This is a small art gallery in large camphor trees of a new park in Fukuoka. The structure of this gallery is a suspension system like a hammock in a forest. It’s floor and roof are both steel- concrete composite slabs hanged from the column walls between trees, which is an extension of its piles from the ground. The curved surface of the roof is a catenary shape following to a force of gravity. The suspended slab works to lead people from the park into this gallery, and suspended roof works to make shades on the inside of the gallery. People will appreciate arts of the gallery with comfort like in a hammock in the forest.

Team Living House in Tokyo, Japan by Masatoshi Hirai Architects Atelier

Saturday, June 18th, 2016

Article source: Masatoshi Hirai Architects Atelier

This is a renovation project of an apartment in downtown Tokyo. The client said unintentionally that they want to spend a brilliant time together nowhere else but in their house. Then I thought, “Indeed”. I always find that houses around us are way too far from the reality of each family life and communities, and they all look alike. It seems as if there were no identity in family life, which is ridiculous.
