Second Home Offices in Lisbon, Portugal by Selgascano Arquitectos

Wednesday, April 18th, 2018

Article source: Selgascano Arquitectos

This is the first project built for Secondhome outside London. It is located in an “L” shape wing of the Lisboa Mercado da Ribeira, a popular landmark built in 1882. The only real idea behind this project is to preserve the character and main features of this space while adapting it to a workspace. The building character is defined by a large open space flaked by column shaped iron windows and beautiful iron-cast trusses in the roof. We preserved all of them and kept the inherited idea of one single open space, making small companies to share a huge table (70×10 meters) divided in three, encouraging the relationship and communication between them. The curved cuts in the table give members their own private area to focus on their work while keeping a sense of community.

Apartment Palatina I in Lisbon, Portugal by rar.studio

Wednesday, March 14th, 2018

Article source: rar.studio

Palatina is a small palace built in the centre of Lisbon in the mid-20th century according to plans designed by Architect Carlos Rebelo de Andrade in the Português Suave style. Originally conceived to serve the purpose of a single family residence, the building was converted into four distinct apartments earlier this century. Apartment Palatina I occupies the main first floor of this mansion, the former location of the social areas – hall, office, billiards room, small living room, drawing room, pantry, dining hall, greenhouse – and correspondingly draws upon the magnificent ostentatiousness of both its amplitude and its materials and decorative details.

Hanaya in Lisbon, Portugal by Yaroslav Galant

Wednesday, December 13th, 2017

Article source: Yaroslav Galant

Yaroslav Galant innovative design studio finished work on an interior of Japanese cuisine restaurant – Hanaya, located in Lisbon. The eclectic concept of the place – a cozy drawing room of the European who is deep in Japan – was inspired by travel of authors across Portugal and their old interest in Japanese culture. Almost imperceptible interlacings of quotes from traditional Portuguese esthetics and the principles of Japanese philosophy connect history, art, the nature and modern everyday life. So, for example, ornaments of stone lace from the Monserat palace located in Sintra became a prototype of stamped wall of the hall. The metal facade of a bar counter repeats drawing of a typical Portuguese tile and causes associations with raw fish – a basis of Japanese cuisine. And shades of conventional scales – a tribute to one of symbols of Portugal – a blue sardine. Simplicity, “dampness”, incompleteness and understatement, common to Japanese esthetics, break and animate form of a drawing room by the wine bar from metal fittings, flower cache-pots from the rusted industrial details, unexpected wooden fragment of an ancient Portuguese mill. Pictures of the Portuguese artist Victor Teixseira living on Madeira island became bright visual accent of the atmosphere. Being scenery for refined Japanese cuisine from one of the best sushi teams of Europe, this interior of implications communicates with the guest more than in two languages.
