Inhotim Centro de Arte Contemporânea is located in Brumadinho, a village near Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais state. A personal initiative of the mining industry businessman Bernardo Paz, the museum has an unusual architectural concept. Instead of sum up all its installations into a unique building, it is composed of many pavilions spread out in a park of approximately 35 hectares.

At the higher level is the house. The metal cantilever looks for lagoon views Its undulations talk to Pampulha. The built volume mixes structures: Steel, concrete, wood complement each other defining supports, closures and roofs. The internal integration of the coexistence space connects to the exterior bringing inward the idea and the distance of the Belo Horizonte’s edge.

The groove in the land packs the 6.5 m cube, the cantilever and the bridge link the two levels connecting the street to the ancient tree in the backyard. The artist’s dwelling is discreet highlighting art works and experiences in progress. Metal is visible, in the sculptures In cuts, bends, welds and paints scissors, brushes, crayon, gas and fire characters in a blend of home and workshop. In an industrial district of crude landscape among sheds, trucks and highways the house is a small factory of beauties.

Built in a sloped site (30 degrees) in the city of Nova Lima, Brazil, the house uses dramatic cantilevers to emphasize the extremity of its position. We have chosen this concept not only for aesthetic reasons, but above all to reduce the interference of the building mass in the topography, keeping the site as natural as possible.
