“Design Lab in the desert” in Piura, Peru by Jorge Losada

Thursday, October 15th, 2015

Article source: Jorge Losada

The City of Piura, located in the desert of Sechura, it is surrounded by sand and dunes and the river, named after the city, barely generates a shy green corridor. However, in this difficult context, the University of Piura managed to reforest approximately a hundred and fifty hectares with a dry woodland, an oasis based on algarrobo trees where the University could settle their facilities.

We proposed a medical complex accommodating an emergency area, a pharmacy and doctors’ offices within the ‘Sur Plaza’ shopping center to attend the needs of the South seaside city during the summer. Due to its holiday environment, we proposed a festive and friendly image that will help reduce the stress produced by going to a hospital facility.

Cockfight Coliseum Garden in Lima, Peru by 2.8x arquitectos

Thursday, May 28th, 2015

Article source: 2.8x arquitectos

The Project is born from the idea of recovering an old cockfight coliseum no longer in use, and changing  its purpose without transforming the original space and traces. The coliseum and the  cocks had a big sentimental value for the owners because of a family tradition. This is the reason why the project turned out into the creation of a memorial garden.

The Building consists of 33 rooms in total, divided into 11 rooms per floor plus a reception and nursing area in each floor. We also intervened the rooftop, creating an open area where patients could feel more in touch with nature and enjoy a bit of the outside.

The typology of a Library has a memory, and shelters memory at the same time. It becomes singular. Implanted in the Campus of the Catholic University of Perú, the project emerge from the circumstances surrounding it, tensions and connections with the environment, the community, the pre-existing structures shape their figure, outlining, perforating, rotating, and folding it.
