House in Travanca, Portugal by Nelson Resende, Architect

Sunday, December 13th, 2015

Article source: Nelson Resende, Architect

The presented house, built in an irregular area, with a constant pendent, is located in a rural village, surrounded by a certain kind of dispersion, diversity of typologies and scales creating a lack of visual unity in the surroundings.

It has, however, great salubrity conditions, a good solar exposition, dominant altimetry in what concerns to the visual and physical connections to the neighborhood.

Article source: Oh!Land studio

Contemporary problems need contemporary solutions. The challenge brought forth by this project is one of them. To overcome today’s disarticulated urban expansion that discourages natural resources and urban life, a proper discussion between members of a multi-disciplinary team is essential. For this reason this group of young designers came together in the attempt to create innovative designs that integrate natural and artificial elements into complete, multi-functional and sustainable urban systems that promote quality urban lifestyles in overall harmonic landscapes.

POVERA PAVILION in ALMADA, PORTUGAL by ATELIER JQTS

Saturday, November 21st, 2015

Article source: ATELIER JQTS

Usually a scenography in theater appears as a consequence of a certain text and a certain sequence of actions. Could we conceive it in the opposite direction? Would it be possible to use space as a way of anticipate and contribute the whole action as an outline condition? The scenography, or as we would argue, the Architecture itself, might influence the play and favor for certain actions instead of some others in an informal and none imposed way. Space, text and action could come together in a non hierarchical order and in a close relation and intimacy. Rossi says that “theater has to do with the happening: his beginning, development and conclusion. Without happening there’s no Theater and there’s no Architecture”.

Cinema Ideal in LISBON, Portugal by José Neves

Tuesday, November 17th, 2015

Article source: José Neves

Cinema Ideal was the first cinema in Portugal. Located in the heart of Lisbon, between Loreto and Horta Seca streets, it occupies the ground floor of two buildings built in two different epochs – 19th and 20th centuries. Since its inauguration in 1904, the cinema was transformed by multiple interventions, becoming a degraded and architecturally disqualified place, showing exclusively pornographic films during the last three decades.

House in Rato, Portugal by CHP Arquitectos

Friday, November 6th, 2015

Article source: CHP Arquitectos

The design consists of the refurbishment and expansion of an existing building in one of Lisbon’s historic neighbourhoods. The vernacular characteristics of the front facade were refurbished and clarified. Inside the design aims to create and free space on each floor, enhancing its size and scale, and creating a dialogue between the front and back facades, enabling light to entre through both directions. All technical aspects inherent to a contemporary family house are resolved through a block at the centre of each floor, liberating the side walls, unveiling both facades.
