An introverted sculptural structure unfurling towards the ocean and the private courtyards within: a powerful dichotomy between intimacy and exposure. A design characterised by a formal tension between straight and curved surfaces and a dynamic roof gesture delineating the boundary between private and shared space. East Village Stadium Masterplan in San Diego by DBRDS

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

Lately, for various reasons, there has been constant instability and uncertainty that has impeded generating a sporting culture in San Diego where support for the home team is part of the urban and social fabric of the city. The idea of the San Diego Chargers leaving to another location (most possibly LA) created a somber feeling amongst their fans. With that thought, DBRDS wanted to explore an architectural solution for a new stadium downtown that would capture the imagination of the City, the fans & the Chargers to be inspired to want to stay & forever belong in San Diego… to become an iconic fabric of people’s in this great City.
