This project is located in Shanghai, on East Nanjing road’s Century Square, the most famous and glamorous pedestrian street in the “heart” of the city center.

The essence of this street is its commercial status, which was historically developed as a link between East and West, connecting directly the port with the city, therefore used as the principal trading platform, becoming a cultural and social active axis.

This is a high-end residential development featuring 10 apartment towers and 59 townhouses. The apartment towers house 700 units ranging from 1-bedroom to 4-bedrooms. All 700 units are orientated towards the view of the nearby Changfeng Haiyang World. The townhouses are 3-stories tall and feature an internal private courtyard. The inspiration comes from the traditional courtyard houses of China. Each unit has its own subterranean parking and storage. Voids were cut out of the street level to allow natural light and ventilation on the basement level. The apartments and townhouses share a central green space as well as a club house.

Friday, October 10th, 2014

Article source: Girimun Architects

This master plan in West Shanghai capitalises on the potential synergy between various programmatic functions and urban transport network links to create a truly mixed-use environment with fully integrated business, shopping and entertainment activities. A large public space featuring event zones, amphitheatres, waterscapes and soft loans sits atop a double platform over an operative train depot. The technical complexities of the site and coordination with various existing infrastructures make of this development a remarkable achievement.

Article source: Girimun Architects

This lifestyle shopping mall is located at the fringe of a compound of high-rise apartments and serves the residents of a high-end suburb of Shanghai built around a giant man-made artificial lake. Originated at the lake, a canal waterfront system of pedestrian-friendly walkways culminates on this plot. The design is therefore driven by the integration between indoor and outdoor spaces where the retail experience extends itself from the main building onto sunken squares, pavilion restaurants, signage towers and feature canopies.

G9 Shanghai in China by Atelier INDJ

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

Article source: Atelier INDJ

G九 exists beyond it primary purpose of dining and delves into a realm of exhibition, spectacle and participation.

From the projects inception Atelier I-N-D-J founder Ian Douglas-Jones led the projects ambitions – “the unusually proportioned space just had to be exploited and celebrated, early on I had persuaded the client that this presented an opportunity to create something that subverts preconceptions” All elements of the project have been carefully considered; from bespoke furniture to a super scaled interactive light installation that terminates in a major site specific art work by British Artist INSA, this collaborative piece sees the 956 lights of the light installation merge with the art work, working together as one.
