Lude wanted a house in a traditional neighbourhood in the city of Cehegin, using the roof of his mother and sister’s house as a plot.

Making the most of its privileged situation, Casa Lude is related to its environment in a particular way. Due to the density of the area it doesn’t open directly to the nearby facades but looks along the narrow streets to see the landscape, the Burete mountains and the San Agustin Hill.

ALAMILLO HEALTH CENTER in Seville, Spain by Fernando Suarez Corchete & Javier Terrados Cepeda

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

Article source: Fernando Suarez Corchete

On the outskirts of Seville abound open residential blocks. These are called polygons, where H-blocks and interstitial spaces without identity proliferate. In the 60s and 70s, with the pressing need for housing for the new population coming in from the countryside, the creation of recognizable urban spaces between the blocks was not on the agenda of the designers. The blocks were repeated indifferently, sometimes parallel, sometimes terraced, sometimes diagonal, neglecting the intermediate void.

House of wood in Chamartin, Madrid, Spain by Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

Article source: Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos

The decision to build a new house in a 1950’s neighbourhood of single family dwellings had to confront the by-laws which not only prohibited the demolition of a previously existing building lacking any architectural value, but also explicitly protected the original construction materials as well as its volume, covered by a hipped roof. Our proposal produces an in-depth transformation of the building on the basis of just two architectural operations: a new wood envelope around the existing volume of the old house, and a central spine that runs through the full height of the interior spaces.

Encants Barcelona in Spain by b720 Fermin Vazquez Arquitectos

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

Article source: b720 Fermin Vazquez Arquitectos

Els Encants is a centenarian marketplace set outdoors in an informal way. Its former location was close to the market’s new grounds both at Glories Square.

A flee-market dedicated to auctions and the sale of second hand objects, furniture, clothing and all sorts of curious and bric-à-brac. Its origin goes back to the 14th Century. It began its activity at Glories in 1929 occupying a public site of nearly 17.000 m2 in an improvised way, and developed under a temporary basis, becoming a much loved, unique space in the city. The new market is the first step of an important City project: the reform of Glories Square, Cerda’s central square at the junction of the three main avenues of his Plan.
