Article source: Arquitectos Ayala

This project was carried out in collaboration with the studio Carbajal. This collaboration was the result of our plan to work on a shared project that would constitute an enriching experience for both studios that share a common structure (father and two sons) and a similar commitment with the profession.

Banco Popular Headquarters in Madrid, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

We initially conceive the project as a whole extending from plot to plot in a way which users and visitors experience as natural and easily recognizable. Thus we suggested building a series office blocks which would form an interwoven whole. The other option, a single large building, was discarded to make room for a more versatile, flexible and domestic option. In this sense we prefer here to work around a formula rather than a form, taking as starting point a typological approach rather than an image.

Tourist Apartments and Commercial Premises Valdelagrana in Cádiz, Spain by SV60 Arquitectos

Tuesday, May 28th, 2013

Article source: SV60 Arquitectos

The building is designed as a linear volume adapted to the urban rules of alignments and heights, and parallel to the coastline. The situation, in a second line and hidden after several 12-storey buildings, the situation allows different sea sights through the horizontal gaps between the “towers”. Due to excessive linearity (urban ordinance) and low height (3 floors) the building is proposed as a volumetric and abstract object that acquires his singularity by the vibration of the materials.

Central Theatre Expo ‘92 in Sevilla, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Located on the river bank, on the site of the Exhibition, the theatre volume rises: one box inside another box. It is a pure volume, plated with natural stone, undressed, with no ornamentation, standing out on the vegetation of the bank. During the day, when the theatre is still dumb, the serenity and beauty of the geometric shape announce it existence, providing Seville with another myth in its look over the river.

The Fisherman’s House in Negradas, Lugo, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Article source: Arquitectos Ayala

In a small hamlet of four inhabitants called Gatariza, which belongs to the village Negradas within the municipality of O Vicedo (Lugo), on the banks of the river Sor, we built, or better refurbished, a small house that had belonged to a fisherman who had just passed away and transformed it into a holiday house. In Galicia, rural houses are distributed with such common sense that it is difficult for any architect to improve on this.

Airport and Control Tower Pamplona in Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Obviously a container for hundreds or thousand of people that appears in front of these large planes is different, at first, of any other building. But for that very reason, to try to compete in size with these airplanes is something useless that never is achieved by any construction no matter how massive. We have had the luck to be able to project a new plan, which was required to be of medium size and moderate proportions.

In a time of permanent changes, changes of use, technological changes or simply hierarchical changes, the most difficult challenge was to design a flexible modulated container.

City of Justice in Almería, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Article source: Arquitectos Ayala

For this public tendering process, announced by the Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian regional government) we used the experience gained both in Erfurt (Germany) and in Málaga. We obtained the first price. After four years of meetings, changes of plans, etc. the execution project was finally formalized. Fortunately, the spirit of the project was preserved and, therefore, the main ideas of the contest’s preliminary project were maintained. As a result, the building was the original one from the point of view of architecture and town planning.

Sports Complex of the Royal Spanish Football federation in Las Rozas, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Article source: Arquitectos Ayala

We thought of sport fields and green spaces with some buildings near them and not of the contrary. The 120.000 m2 plot had strong vegetation and big drops sloping down to a nearby water course. The first thing we tried was to fit in the required four football grounds with the obligatory north – south orientation. The two public football grounds were placed five meters lower than the two training fields to be adapted to the plot.

New Public Theatre in Xàtiva, Spain by Arquitectos Ayala

Sunday, May 26th, 2013

Article source: Arquitectos Ayala

When this contest was announced, we went up to the Mont Sant, near the old fortress, to see the chosen plot from above. The large avenue called “Alameda” (or “Albereda” as it is called in Xativa) divides the old part of the city from the rest of the town. With a great difference of height between the “Albereda” and the back street (6m.) as the classical theatres were placed, the building was adapted to the different levels of the ground. At the back, there is the building of the music society.
