The new restaurant on the top of Monte Generoso graces the spot where an early twentiethcentury hotel once stood. The location is extraordinary: a small plateau overlooking the precipice on the north side of the mountain, characterised by a mighty rock with a steep 300- 400 metre drop. The impressive rock formation was the deciding factor for creating the “stone flower” – an octagonal building with individual “petals”. On the east front this circular crown provides the space for an observation deck that follows the ridge of the mountain.
Elegant and iconic, the new headquarters of the FIM (International Motorcycling Federation) had to wait ten years before taking shape on a site in the outskirts of Geneva where road and railway meet.
It was in 2006 that LOCALARCHITECTURE and Bureau d’Architecture Danilo Mondada won the competition (conducted by the MEP – Mandat d’Études Parallèles – parallel development selection process) for the extension of the International Motorcycling Federation’s main headquarters in Mies in the canton of Vaud. Following a change of administration at the FIM the project was abandoned. A new selection procedure with invited architects was launched in 2013, with a modified functional programme. At this point the mandate was awarded to LOCALARCHITECTURE.
The Bardill Studio building has replaced an old barn in the protected centre of the village of Scharans. Building permission was granted by the local authorities on the condition that the new building would have exactly the same volume as the old barn.
Parterre One is located in Kaserne Basel, a heritage protected ensemble in the heart of Basel. Kaserne used to be military barracks and has been converted into a cultural hub for the last 50 years, since the army left. Our client had a new vision for his corner: he had a restaurant, a bar, and a venue that were next to each other but never worked together. Our mission was to make one cultural and leisure pole with the three of them. Within this frame the project became an architectural geode: an existing building with refreshed facades and a surprising interior around a thunderbolt gallery.

The project fits into a small plot in a highly inclined terrain overlooking the Geneva Lake. It is a urban plot where it is allowed a building of 4 levels above the floor of the garage. The shape of the building comes from the need to rework an existing project according to the Swiss town planning regulations: the result was an irregular and faceted prism.
This is a Reconstruction of a multi-family house with workshop rooms underneath in the area Seefeld of the city of Zurich. The house has been in a core zone since the new regulations. Therefore the outlines of the existing volumes are protected and the project had to be developed in collaboration with the conservation of monuments.
Foeger Woman Pure“ has been one of Austria’s leading fashion boutiques for the past 20 years. Located in the picturesque alpine Town of Telfs in Tyrol (population 15,000) the store offers its customers fashion from international designer all over the world. Pedrocchi Architects from Basel, Switzerland, extended the existing fashion boutique with a cupola-like building which house the collections of new and promising designers.
The new Kulm Eispavillon in St Moritz opens to the public today, a regeneration project that is set to reinstate Kulm Park as the social focus of this part of the resort by returning it to the community.
The initial aim of the project was to restore the existing 1905 eispavillon which played host to the 1928 and 1948 Winter Olympics. The building had been abandoned for many years, and had fallen into a state of extreme disrepair. The new scheme brings the building back to its original state with the ice skating rink as the focus, also introducing a new club restaurant, patisserie, and sun terrace for visitors and the local Engadin community to enjoy. To expand the old eispavillon’s capacity to host events, a new multipurpose pavilion has been incorporated with links to the historic structure. Designed in the spirit of a mini-stadium, it is set to be the focus of the annual calendar of sporting and cultural events including the medal ceremonies at the Ski World Championships to be held in St Moritz in February 2017, as well as music festivals and shows of classic cars.
The new single-family house was designed as a separate residential unit and can hold its own next to the existing building from the 80s. It is situated on a partly raised plateau in the south-eastern part of the property. The two buildings differ in their roof design and thus emphasize their autonomy. At the same time, the new building paraphrases the existing building’s design: by its polygonal ground plan, which follows the hill’s shape, and expressive cantilevered floors. Wood was used a material to contrast the rather heavy sand-lime brick of the existing structure. Hierarchically, the new building is supposed to subordinate to the existing building and is therefore set slightly to the rear of the site. The new structure appears like a pavilion and, thanks to the flat roof, has a large accessible roof terrace that expands the small plot effectively. The greening of the roofs is intended to give the new building an animated character and link it with nature and the hill.
The gastronomic pavilion at the ETH Hönggerberg has been conceived as a prism that serves as an architectural filter between the campus and the landscape and serves as a meeting point for teachers, visitors, employees and students, as well as a reception place for international guests. On the south side opening to the campus and on the north side allowing to enjoy a beautiful view over the wide landscape, the building has an open and flexible structure and its series of wood porticoes form an elegant hall.
