holiday home in Vitznau, Switzerland by Lischer Partner Architekten Planer

Friday, August 30th, 2013

Article source: Lischer Partner Architekten Planer

The clients’ desire was to live in a timber house. However, the challenging geology, the exceptional hillside location and the existing environment prompted us to design a solid construction in which the hard shell of the concrete facade encases and protects the soft core of the timber house. The prefabricated timber frame cassettes were erected, sealed and insulated on site and clad with single skin concrete. The timber construction stands as ‘a house in a house’. In combination with the concrete shell, it was possible to optimise its load bearing dimensions as it does not have to resist any shear forces.

329 prepared dc-motors, cotton balls, toluene tank, 2013 in Dottikon, Switzerland by Zimoun

Article source: Studio Zimoun

Using simple and functional components, Zimoun builds architecturally-minded platforms of sound. Exploring mechanical rhythm and flow in prepared systems, his installations incorporate commonplace industrial objects. In an obsessive display of simple and functional materials, these works articulate a tension between the orderly patterns of Modernism and the chaotic forces of life. Carrying an emotional depth, the acoustic hum of natural phenomena in Zimoun’s minimalist constructions effortlessly reverberates.

The location is unique and breath-taking: the registered landmark from theBelle Epoque, the Pilatus-Kulm Mountain Hotel, is situated on an exposed mountain face at 6,995 feet above sea level, offering a splendid view of the surrounding summits, and the city of Lucerne way down in the valley. To celebrate its 120th anniversary, the hotel was completely renovated in 2010, and equipped with a new business centre, among other amenities. Still, it has been able to maintain its historic mountain hotel charm, not only thanks to its wooden shutters.

Fragment à miracle’ project proposes the construction of an architectural landscape on old foundations, a simultaneous source of wonder and contemplation. The project is related to the context of the landscape’s coastline because of its differentiated permeability and its connection with the environment’s point of strength. Walks, south and north, are connected to the Old Street of Italy which, abandoning its original mission, becomes a witness of Veytaux Villeneuve pedestrian link.
